Attractions of Dalat: #4 Datanla Falls
The lovely Datanla Falls are only 4 miles from the centre of the mountain town of Dalat in southern Vietnam. Sadly the proximity to the city means that these are the most over developed and touristy falls of them all. Arrive at lunchtime and the sheer number of coaches on the large tarmac carpark gives advance warning of what is to follow. Their will more than likely be a large queue at the ticket office as well. They have even built a huge restaurant here; this is not the great unknown.
The waterfall is quite charming, not dramatic, but not without its own intrinsic beauty. It is a multi-tiered fall that cascades down the hillside meandering around rocks and foliage. To see it in its real beauty, go when the weather is bad. Then the tourists stay away and you will have the place to yourself.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful. Lush undergrowth and almost jungle like conditions whilst at the same time remain cool, as it does in these hilly conditions. If this is not what you are after then there is always the luge ride. This is an exhilarating solo rollercoaster ride, where you determine the speed. A word of warning though, if you hit the person in front, you will be held responsible. So avoid getting behind a family, leave as much a gap as the staff will let you, then go for it!
There is archery at the bottom of the ride, so all is not lost. If the crowds disappoint, and often they do, then at least there are things to see and do here. Dalat is a fabulous town and area to visit. The people are friendly, the weather is cooler and the scenery is simply magnificent. It is a shame that the region does tend to get forgotten as Vietnam has so much to offer.

Yes I remember these falls. Luckily we went when no tourist buses and had it all to ourselves. The rollercoaster thing was the highlight.
