Things that were ordinary...
Drying rice grains under the sun.
Are still ordinary for some maybe, but for now I disagree.
Growing-up in a farming community, life evolved about farm activities, day in, day out. Although my parents were both professionals, they were only home on weekends as they have an accomodation where they taught in grade school a bit far from our home town.
That left me then to spend most of my free time with friends outside school, with one cousin in particular whose parents were into farming.
Harvested grains are moist so they need to be dried properly before being taken to the rice mills.
One of our tasks before was to dry them out. With the above photo, it was an ordinary scene done by all farmers everywhere.
My cousin and I used to do it in their driveway. For other families, they do it on the road, in basketball courts, in any flat surfaces where possible. I've seen some being done on the roof too!
Drying corns for the next season.
The heavy stuff was usually done by the male family members or their workers, so there's no child slavery or anything. But looking back now, it's probably their way of not wanting us around with the main jobs. Might as well let us work and play at the same time perhaps?
To me it was a way of life then, though it is still is for some, I can see the funny side now. Probably from living abroad, but that maybe, I miss that simplicity of life.

I found this interesting, there are so many things in life that we never think about. What is "normal" for one person is often "new" for another.
As most things are..frequent exposure makes one blind to one's significance, may it be a thing or a person. taking things for granted is so easy to happen if we're not careful.
