La Palma - La Isla Bonita (Part3 - The Spectacular Middle) english-german

In my 3rd Post about the island of La Palma I would like to report today about the center of the island. The center is formed by the Caldera de Taburiente. On its edge is the highest mountain of the Roque de los Muchachos with an altitude of 2426 m.

In meinem 3. Post über die Insel La Palma möchte ich heute über die Mitte der Insel berichten. Der Mittelpunkt wird von der Caldera de Taburiente gebildet. Auf Ihrem Rand ist der höchste Berg der Roque de los Muchachos mit einer Höhe von 2426 m.

We started the tour again in Santa Cruz de la Palma.

Wir starteten die Tour auch wieder in Santa Cruz de la Palma.

Shortly after the city the street goes in serpentines up the mountain into the clouds and you should drive a little careful on the winding foggy streets. The sun shone over the clouds.

Kurz nach der Stadt ging es in Serpentinen den Berg hoch in die Wolken hinein und man sollte auf den kurvenreichen nebelnassen Straßen schon ein wenig vorsichtig fahren. Über den Wolken schien dann sofort wieder die Sonne.

After many more turns, we reached the edge of the caldera and had a first look into the huge crater with a diameter of about 9 km and a maximum depth of about 2000 m.

Nach vielen weiteren Kurven erreichten wir den Rand der Caldera und hatten einen ersten Blick in den riesigen Krater mit einem Durchmesser von ca. 9 km und einer maximalen Tiefe von ca. 2000 m.

Here I would like to draw your attention to a prominent crag in the middle of the picture, which I have zoomed in the next picture again. This tip will appear several times later and serves as a small landmark. You can see the street and a small parking lot with cars.

Hier möchte ich euch auf eine markante Felsspitze in der Mitte des Bildes aufmerksam machen, die ich im nächsten Bild nochmals herangezoomt habe. Diese Spitze wird später noch mehrmals auftauchen und dient als kleiner Orientierungspunkt. Man kann die Straße und einen kleinen Parkplatz mit Autos erkennen.

But continue on the crater rim. On the next picture you can see how the caldera in a gorge opens to the west. We will cross this gorge later.

Aber weiter auf dem Kraterrand. Auf dem nächsten Bild sieht man wie sich die Caldera in einer Schlucht nach Westen öffnet. Diese Schlucht werden wir später noch überqueren.

A little further on the crater rim are a number of observatories in which both the universe and our atmosphere are explored. In order to avoid light pollution, all sources of light have been screened on La Palma so that they do not radiate upwards.

Etwas weiter findet man auf dem Kraterrand eine Anzahl von Observatorien in denen sowohl das Weltall als auch unsere Atmosphäre erforscht werden. Um Lichtverschmutzung zu vermeiden, hat man auf La Palma alle Lichtquellen so abgeschirmt, dass sie nicht nach oben strahlen.

Then we reached the Roque de los Muchachos. The view into the caldera and over the island to the south is really overwhelming. I could have shown a lot of pictures here but limited myself to a few.

Dann erreichten wir den Roque de los Muchachos. Der Blick in die Caldera und über die Insel Richtung Süden ist wirklich überwältigend. Ich hätte hier viele Bilder zeigen können habe mich aber auf wenige beschränkt.

On the next picture you can see the Teide on the horizon. The highest mountain of Spain (3718 meters) on the neighboring island of Tenerife.

Auf dem nächsten Bild sieht man am Horizont den Teide. Den mit 3718 Metern höchsten Berg Spaniens auf der Nachbarinsel Teneriffa.

You can do some walks on the crater rim. But you should book a guide. Due to time constraints, we decided against a bigger tour and ran only short stages. And then it was time to leave the mountain again. We wanted to see more. So we drove on towards Llano Negro Again it went down the winding roads down the mountain.

Man kann auf dem Kraterrand einige Wanderungen unternehmen. Man sollte aber einen Guide buchen. Wir haben uns aus Zeitgründen gegen eine größere Tour entschieden und sind nur kurze Etappen gelaufen. Und dann war es auch schon wieder Zeit den Berg zu verlassen. Wir wollten ja noch mehr sehen. Also sind wir weiter Richtung Llano Negro gefahren Wieder ging es auf kurvenreichen Straßen den Berg hinunter.

Near Llano Negro we made a detour to the valley of the dragon trees.

In der Nähe von Llano Negro haben wir noch einen Abstecher in das Tal der Drachenbäume gemacht.

And on we went south through the gorge of the Caldera near Tazacorte. The road here is breathtaking, but like all roads on La Palma very well developed.

Und weiter ging es Richtung Süden durch die Schlucht der Caldera bei Tazacorte. Die Straße hier ist atemberaubend, aber wie alle Straßen auf La Palma sehr gut ausgebaut.

Behind Tasacorte, we turned to the east and the mountain range Cumbra Nueva and reached the already mentioned parking lot with the crag. From here you have a view into the caldera, but from the other side. And in the last picture a view of the Roque de los Muchcachos and the crater rim of the Cumbra Nueva.

Hinter Tasacorte sind wir in Richtung Osten und dem Gebirgszug Cumbra Nueva abgebogen und erreichten den von mir schon angesprochenen Parkplatz mit der Felsspitze. Von hier hat man einen Blick in die Caldera, aber von der anderen Seite. Und im letzten Bild ein Ausblick auf den Roque de los Muchcachos und den Kraterrand von der Cumbra Nueva aus.

That was her already the tour through the center of the island, which ended again in Santa Cruz de La Palma. Fortunately, a tunnel was built through the Cumbra Nueva. Thus one saves oneself the way over a passport.

Das war sie dann auch schon die Tour durch die Inselmitte, die auch wieder in Santa Cruz de La Palma endete. Man hat glücklicherweise einen Tunnel durch die Cumbra Nueva gebaut. Somit erspart man sich den Weg über einen Pass.

Allgemein möchte ich erwähnen, dass wir uns viele Ziele, die ich in meinen Posts angesprochen habe, auch noch ausgiebiger angeschaut haben. Insgesamt waren wir 2 Wochen auf der Insel unterwegs. Vielleicht werde ich später noch das Eine oder Andere von der Insel berichten.
Diese Insel ist atemberaubend und sehr abwechslungsreich. Ich habe schon einige Inseln auf der Welt besucht, aber La Palma hat einen tiefen Eindruck bei mir hinterlassen.

In general, I would like to mention that we looked at many of the goals that I mentioned in my posts even more extensively. All in all we were on the island for 2 weeks. Maybe later I'll tell you some things about the island.
This island is breathtaking and very varied. I have visited some islands in the world, but La Palma has left a deep impression on me.
