Hello Steemit!

Previously on Hungry Banana's Traveling Series:
-Hey is that ostrich looking at us?
-Which one? Ouchhhhhh. IT BIT ME!
-Charlie STOP!
-Who's Charlie?
-That ostrich of course...

After a while...
-Is that a tiger?
-Yeah, and dancing with the fire.
-Then you're gonna hear me ROAR!

When somebody said Vietnam to foreigners (not me, I'm talking about other non-Vietnamese people), they will remember Vietnam War. It's really important part of world history. It's the moment that guns and planes didn't won, but hearts and minds did.

Being smart is not about doing science or something. It's about surviving, even in the most difficult occasions. Vietnam showed it many times in history. They won against China by placing sharp traps in the sea hundreds or maybe thousands years ago. They made Chinese ships sank with this method.
And there's a quote:

History repeats itself.

They used the same tactics against American soldiers during Vietnam war. But not inside of sea this time, they put traps inside of the ground.

When people go to Vietnam (especially history lovers), they visit Củ Chi tunnels (pronunciation is similar to Gucci, so I prefer to say Gucci tunnels).

And we went there by a bus with our tourist guide.

He talked about Vietnam War while we were in bus. He had an accent, and I'm not native speaker, so I didn't understand what he meant mostly. But if you want to learn history, you can read books about war as well. It's really interesting if you love war histories.

Here I will skip the boring part and focus on excited part directly!

Here's ticket for Gucci tunnels. But 20.000 Vietnamese dong is for Vietnamese people price (hey, don't be jealous, they deserve it). Tickets were 110.000 Vietnamese dong for foreigners (1 USD is around 22.700 Vietnamese dong).

After you show tickets, you're inside of a jungle with a path to walk and see around.

But even for seeing tunnels, you have to pass this long tunnel they built later:

I'm calling Vietnamese people as smart, not only because of booby traps, it's because they thought about these tunnels:

It's just the entrance of tunnels and you can see how smart they are in every inch of it. They made entrance so narrow, because they knew American soldiers wouldn't fit in there (according to our guide FAT American soldiers). Vietnamese soldiers were tiny and they were able to move even in this narrow tunnels.

They opened holes for tunnels for ventilation, and they hid it so good. There were levels in tunnels and they lived in there for long time.

They built a kitchen inside of tunnels and didn't put ventilation near. They put ventilation to far from kitchen, so smoke went from there. American helicopters and planes saw the smoke and shoot targets. But it didn't work, because Vietnamese were far from there.

Here's how Vietnamese soldiers were wearing during the war:

Here's an American tank destroyed by a mine in 1970:

And now it's time to see some booby traps. Hope you enjoy it!

And there was the most famous one (I'm calling it as the most famous one, because it comes first when you search "booby trap" on Google.). Our guide showed it for us (Thank you guide!).

And I want to say thanks to our guide and people who work in Gucci tunnels. They were so helpful about showing us traps and tunnels. Here's how Vietnamese soldiers hide during the war:

Great post! You forget to mention the war against France.

I'm glad that you like it. I will talk about it when I write about Da Lat and last king's palace. Thank you for your support.

Travel Vietnam more than me for sure...

Hahah. I travelled to 4 cities of Vietnam and each of them were wonderful. But I didn't go to North Vietnam, you went to North. I'm planning to travel to North Vietnam as well. Especially Hanoi and Sapa. Which cities do you suggest me?
