The Best Travel Destinations in July

in #travel7 years ago

Today I will make a list of the best destinations and bizarre events taking place around the world for next month. So if you haven’t booked your vacation yet, then it’s not too late! Or if you happen to be around for any of these events then be sure to check them out!

Wife- Carrying in Finland - July 1st and 2nd
Wait what? Yes, you read that right: Wife- Carrying, so to all the gym rats out there, this is your chance to prove yourself. Back in the days, the winner would actually win the wife they competed with! Nowadays you are only allowed to participate with your own wife. Bummer, I know!

Across a 250 meter distance, the participants must tackle sand, grass, gravel and a 1 meter deep water section. So if you feel manly enough or if you think it’s romantic for the love of your life to carry you across the course then this is where you want to be! To make things more tempting; the winning couple receives the woman’s weight in beer. Enjoy!

Swim the English Channel - July 6th
This is one way to travel for free that I forgot to include in yesterday’s blog! https://steemit.com/travel/@heyitshaas/how-to-travel-the-world-without-money
If you want a challenge, then why not swim across the English Channel from England to France. The water temperature will be close to a lovely 15 degrees in July so that shouldn’t stop you, right?
It’s only a 32 km-long crossing too! Getting excited yet?! They won’t allow you to wear a wetsuit… BRRR

The route runs across open water from Dover,England to Pas-de- Calias, Northern France. So who is up for it?
The record time is just under 7 hours. Goodluck!

Run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain - July 7-14
Not a fan of this one personally because I think it’s animal abuse but it is a tradition and if you like adrenaline more than animals and are not afraid to run for your life, this is just the festival for you!
Pamplona’s Running with of the Bulls takes place every year and every year hundreds of ‘runners’ sprint in front of a six-pack of raging bulls. And yes, there are always injuries and even the odd fatality.
The run takes about 3 minutes but with the Bulls reaching speeds at up to 55km/h it’s virtually impossible to stay in front of them. Good luck with that one too...

Gamble on the Camel cup, Australia - July 15
The NBA season just ended, the football leagues in Europe are on their summer break and the NFL isn’t starting until a few months from now, so what can we still gamble on? What about a fun Camel race in the middle of Australia? Every year the festival in the outback attracts belly dancers, bands, rickshaw rallies and of course a huge crowd. Make sure you put in your bet in time but get ready to get frustrated! At the start of the race, some Camels stay right where they are and some of the real champs even put it in reverse... The race is fun and the festivities surrounding it are even more fun!

Motorbike the Himalaya - July 6-23
Make the most of the short snow-free season and motorbike through the Himalaya! In eighteen days you will cover a distance of 1,100 KM, riding between 5 to 8 days. This beautiful route takes you to most breathtaking views and will offer you a once in a lifetime experience. So if you have about $3000 dollars laying around somewhere then this could be the trip of a lifetime!

Hopefully I inspired you, if not for this year then hopefully for next year!

Cheers,
Martijn
