My Visit to the Château Montebello
The Château Montebello is a luxury hotel located in a municipality bearing the very same name of Montebello.
This small town is world-renowned for having hosted major international events involving global leaders.
In 1981, the 7th G7 Summit was held at this location, two years later it was the NATO Nuclear Planning Group and the Bilderberg Group who met there; and in 2007, George W. Bush, Stephen Harper, and Felipe Calderón gathered at this place for a United States-Canada-Mexico trilateral summit.
In 1846, the castle was built by Louis-Joseph Papineau as the Manor of Montebello.
Today, it is still considered as the largest log structure ever built.
It may not look that much impressive when looked at from the exterior but believe me, when I say that inside I couldn't help but to succumb to the beauty of its awe-inspiring decor.
The Château Montebello's specifications:
-built in 4 months
-wood shipped by rail from British Columbia
-10,000 logs
-500,000 hand-slit cedar roof shakes
-166 kilometers of wooden molding
-1,600 meter square (17,000 square feet)
-211 guest rooms (including 14 suites)
-indoor and outdoor pool
-18-hole golf course
-26 kilometers of cross-country ski trails
A six-sided stone fireplace sits at the center of the log-château.
There are two mezzanines encircling the central rotunda.
The roof stands at more than 20 meters (66 feet) high, while the soaring rafters below, point at it from their 18 meters (60 feet) tall logs.
Is this the Cardinal Richelieu reading on this giant painting?
Everything there seems to be made out of wood!
...Almost everything.
Once our visit was done, we ended up face to face with a pig outside.
Then, we went for some fresh air on our side of the Ottawa River.
great images and i like the lamp!
Thanks, I like it too!
