Sungnyemun Gate, 600-year old gate, is an important and historic gate in Korea
This beautiful Sungnyemun was designated as Korea's national treasure No. 1 in 1962.
Sungnyemun is the largest and oldest gate in Korea, which is one of the most famous gates in Korea, along with Namdaemun Gate in Gaeseong city and Botongmun in Pyongyang city.

'Sungnye' means to respect courtesy, 'mun' means gate. Therefore, Sungnyemun is a gate for those who respect the courtesy.

It was built in 1396 between 1398.
It is a well-preserved national treasure through numerous repairs, including 1400, 1479 and 1868.
In 2008, the fire was severely damaged. However, it is restored closest to its original form and is loved by the people.

Sungnyemun boasts a beautiful and precious appearance from any angle.

In my opinion, Sungnyemun is the most unique gate in the world, in its meaning and outstanding beauty. If you see this gate, you will probably agree with my opinion.
