Playa Caleton, Dominican Republic: You wont find it unless someone shows you

in #travel6 years ago

I found this place.....because someone showed me. It is at the end of a a completely unmarked road that there is no good reason anyone would turn down unless instructed to do so. Even if someone did turn on it accidentally they would quickly turn around because the road is in terrible shape leading to this protected cove of a beach.

The first thing you will notice is likely "holy crap, there is almost no one here!" but that is only because there is almost no one there. They do, however have just enough people there that are selling things for you to get as many beach chairs as you want for around $2 each (rental, you don't get to keep them.)

Then, you will likely notice the water is extremely clear, because it is. This is actually quite common on the north coast of the D.R. (or R.D. if speaking properly in Spanish) but the more popular beaches such as Cabarete tend to be crowded. This one, is unlikely to ever be since only the local community even knows where it is and there are NO HOTELS anywhere near the place.

The currents are not very strong here so the snorkeling is great fun although there is not much in the way of coral formations here. There was plenty of fish and I also saw a sea turtle briefly while doing about a 45 minute search snorkel of the area. Be careful of the sides of this cove as the water gets really shallow and there are sea-urchins along the bottom on both sides. There is really no reason you would encounter them unless you are a dare-devil like me.

There are a number of small restaurants there that will sever you basic food at cheap prices but don't be in a hurry. I recommend that you order long before you are hungry because it took so long for ours (despite the fact that almost no one was there) that I was convinced they had forgotten about us. The chicken and fish were fantastic, the plantains, according to someone who likes them were also nice (I don't like them.)

So, I suppose I am writing this to brag a bit because the chances of anyone finding this cove is slim to none unless you know someone who lives here. I am glad I got to see it so thanks to the people who showed me!

Hi @gooddream. Those spots are always the best. i hate crowded tourist places so it looks perfect.

Looks like @gooddream has found a quite, forbidden and heavenly place to enjoy. The broken road with no signmarks even makes it more hard to reach in there. But, those folks who know the existance or got a chance to reach the place, are really lucky, so do you!
The beach looks really clean and the water is crystal clear. Thr foods look awesomely delicious 😋. Oh..Don't take that chair with you back home, it will cost you way more than 2$ 😉.

Does it have to be in real life, or does reading this blog post count as someone showing me? :)

The whole landscape looks delicious! I live in an area where the sea is as blue and crystal clear as the pictures. That's one of the advantages of living in the Caribbean tropics. Normally the prices of meals, beach awnings and chairs are usually a bargain. I hope you enjoyed the fried fish and accompanied it with a cold beer. The life that any good person deserves! Health

Man it looks beautiful! Enjoy your time there :)

What a beautiful place, I'm delighted to see your photos because I seem to be seeing photos of similar places in my country. The beaches are identical and are equally enjoyed with food and drinks on the shore, with the sea breeze and sheltering or not from the radiant sun. A fried fish with bananas is the tastiest thing you can eat on a day at the beach. Keep enjoying RD, @gooddream.
