Siberia Travel Novosibirsk Railway Museum. Staying in Novosibirsk I decided to visit the Novosibirsk Railway Museum.
Whilst Novosibirsk is a large industrial cit, in 1891 it was merely a huge forest. The Tsar Alexander III inn 1891 decided to build the Transsiberian Railway. The engineers had to find the best place to build a railway bridge over the river Ob which flows north into the Arctic.
Five years later the bridge was built, and the town of Novosibirsk was born.
On the route of the Trans Siberian Railway, it was an ideal place to build a railway museum for the old Steam Trains.
The open air museum was strangely deserted in late autumn, there was no one in the open air museum to collect an entrance money, so we wandered around...
Shades of Dr Zhivago and I hang onto the footplate
another magnificent steam monster
Now this looks very similar to George Stephensons 'Rocket- don't you think?
Another visitor appears on the scene to admire the locos, as my local companion Elena decided to get in on the act and have a photo.
We tried to enter some carriages... but it became obvious that some one was living in the carriages... the doors were firmly locked, and shouts from inside gave us the clue that they did not want us to see inside...better safe than sorry, so we just wandered around the deserted exhibits...
By now it was getting cold...snow was in the air. Time to get back into civilisation and get something warm to eat. Time for one last photo opportunity.
Imagine my surprise when the Novosibirsk restaurant had a stuffed bear in the doorway. Time for a photo opportunity.
What do you think of these ancient steam trains?
