Travel blog # 7 : Why should I wander in Underground River?
Puerto Pricesa, Philippines
Underground River which can be found at Subterranean National Park in Puerto Princesa is known to be one of the 7 Wonders of Nature and also 2nd Longest Navigable River of the World. The Underground River measures 8.2 kilometers which pass through the cave where you can found feature formations of stalactites and stalagmites.
Based on our research, Underground river was like a hidden paradise that’s why my Family and I decided to travel from Manila to Palawan just to see Underground river with our own eyes.
The Palawan Subterranean National Park is where the Underground River is. It’s 2 hours away from Town Proper of Puerto Princesa, where we stayed so we rode a Van provided by our Travel Agency to Sabang, Puerto Princesa.
Then from Sabang we boarded a motorboat to PPS Subterranean National Park which took us 30 to 45 minutes.
Registrations and permits were needed before you board the motorboat, all things were settled by our tour guide.
And finally the boat has arrived and we boarded immediately. The boat has the capacity of 12pax so we were joined with other group, they were friendly so we did not have difficulties dealing with them. We easily get along with them.
We safely arrived the Island, the beach was so clear but tourists were not allowed to swim because it’s one way of preserving the park. And the tourguide said “it’s for your eyes only”.
Heres an overview info of Underground River as it was selected to be in the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Filipinos must be very proud of this. We were chosen, it only proved that Philippines were truly a beautiful place to be.
Had our Obligatory photo in the “Welcome” signage of the Underground River before we walk to the trail to see the river itself.
And we walk into the trail and saw some monkeys, it’s prohibited to feed them or touch them as they get wild when they see food or when they were annoyed.
As we approach , we slowly had a glance to a beautiful paradise. They had beautifully preserved the nature! Kudos to Palawan Government! I am impressed!
Such a crystal clear green water. The water wasn't really green, it became green because of the reflection of green trees around the river.
We were obliged to wear the lifevest together with the hard cap for protection from falling rocks , debris and bat feces that might fall from the roof of the cave.
The tour guide also gave us Audio Radio Recorder which has voice record narrating the history and infos about the Underground River which you can hear it with the use of headset provided by the tourguide.
And our turn. We boarded a small boat together with the same group we had in the motorboat. We were all excited to see the stalagmites and stalactites formations.
The boat man with the flash light in his head was also our tour guide, he was so great ! He gave us informations, history and facts about the Underground River as we approach the cave.
As we approach the cave and it’s getting darker the audio voice recorder starts to play, it narrated history and interesting informations about the river, the cave and its rock formations.
Our tour guide’s light was the only light we can see inside the cave while he randomly pointed formations and discuss a little about how long it was formed while telling a joke! He’s good! He deserves a tip.
The were hundreds of stalagmites and stalactites formations depends on how far you can imagine and I won’t upload it anymore, I want you to be amazed by your own eyes seeing the beautiful formations when you have the chance to visit Underground River.
I am amazed by the “LAST SUPPER“ formation as if it was carved by mankind!! How amazing it was formed by nature and God. It’s really the last supper you can see in photos and statues. I can say that it was God’s artwork!
The tour took us 30-45 minutes travel inside the cave. We were all amazed and went outside the cave with smile in our face.
It was good to see the light after the darkness. I feel so alive and thankful to see such great things that God has made.
We took a rest first before we leave and travel again to Sabang. The trees provided us seat and gave us fresh air! Oh I can stay here forever.
God is the greatest artist that he made such beautiful thing for us, his creatures can appreciate and enjoy the beauty of living the life he gave us.*
