Wonderful Wanderlust: 25 Indispensable Travel Tips 8-12

in #travel8 years ago

In these next few tips it is our goal to get you the traveler to start thinking out of the box. These ideas are not complicated or expensive to learn but require us to change our state of mind. For example travel books can be picked up for free or on the cheap at second hand stores. There may be people you already know that can speak different languages. We used to keep a small notebook handy, and would write down words that we learned each day. We hope you enjoy the photographs, and rest assured each of these we have taken while we travel.

8. Find locals who speak your language.

People are your best resources for information. Young people tend to know some English, and older people could know other languages. When you find a local who speaks a language you know, ask lots of questions.

9. Learn some basics in Mandarin and Spanish

After English, Mandarin and Spanish are the two most common languages in the world. Hindi, Arabic, and Portuguese are also popular. Learn few phrases in these languages in case there are no English speakers around.

10. Ensure that everyone in your party stays healthy.

You are only as good as your weakest link. Consider others in your travel party and or you could pay the price later on.

11. Don't take basic hygiene for granted.

Basic hygiene keeps you and your travel companions healthy. Wash your hands regularly, bathe, brush your teeth, and wash your clothes. If you lack proper facilities, use hand sanitizer and take every opportunity to keep yourself, your supplies, and your companions clean.

12. Rest.

Getting adequate rest is as essential to your health as food. Traveling is tiring, so set aside time to rest and recover, especially after long periods spent in transit.

Cool post. I was learning Mandarin from an app before I found Steemit. I need to start again because all I can remember, in pinyin is: Wo de gou bu ai shucai!

It's can be difficult to learn but we can grasp enough to survive :-)

Nice article, @exploretraveler! I also like your blog - you got a new follower now :-) The only thing I would change about the presentation are the plastic bottles and non-reusable Starbucks coffee cup... You may like my last article where I talk about plastic pollution of Oceans. Should be an interesting concern for you since you travel that much. Sunny regards from Canary Islands, Marly

Don't forget flight has that little TV and also has small classes in languages and culture.

Hey you might be interested how a few countries recycle everything. I only wish the USA did the same.
