The High Desert Mountains Above Albuquerque New Mexico

New Mexico's High Desert is made up of the high desert mountains towering above Albuquerque, New Mexico, an area that is over 6,000 feet high. This unique and isolated desert is dotted with mini communities and ranches. Take a look aground and you will see enormous vistas that go on forever. There are no trees, only scrubs, but it has a beauty of it's own. There are unexpected canyon swimming-holes, beautiful  plateaus, and fields of petrified wood and sandstone.  The High Desert is so hot, that you will want to bury yourself in the dirt in a patch of shade.

These mountains are over a mile high and the atmosphere is thin, making the night skies amazing beyond belief. On any clear night, and most are clear, you can see the Milky Way like it was in your own back yard. Look up and take in all the wonders of this amazing sky.  This is another one of the spectacular gifts of the High Desert. 

As you stand upon the tall cliffs, looking out over the canyons, you can not help but feel very small and humble. Let your eyes take in all the grandeur around them, it is immensely magnificent.  This is a place that man will never tame. At best, man will only learn to live side by side the wild. There is no Starbucks and you may or may not have electricity.  Welcome to the land of the High Desert!
