As you enter the shrine, there is a deep sense of peace and tranquility that surrounds and envelops you. This is the Shinto Shrine that exists for the sole purpose of deifying the spirits of the Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. This is a place of dedicated prayer and respect for the Emperor and Empress. People come from afar to pay homage to their past Emperor. Tourists and visitors are welcome at the Shrine, but please remember to be quiet and respectful, as others have come to pray and pay homage. Even if you have only come as a visitor, you will feel the tranquility and peacefulness from the moment you enter the gate. The harmony and quietness will cause you to relax and just be, in the moment,  soaking in the beauty of your surroundings.

As you quietly and reverently make your way through the shrine you will no doubt encounter many who first cleanse themselves and then spend quiet time with their god. Most likely you will also find many others who have only come to share in the immense beauty and calm of this shrine in the city. You can not help but feel the calmness and tranquility.

The door opens up to an oasis of peace. Notice the workmanship of the door. The beautiful iron work used for the handle and lock. All the construction on the buildings were of the best quality. Meiji-Jingu is an oasis of peace.
