Kukkarahalli Lake; About An Evening There

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

Kukkarahalli lake was not the part of the plan, but sometimes in life, you end up at the right place at the right time followed by a series of wrong events. Let’s leave the wrong events part and get to the serene lake we reached at the end of the day. It was the Kukkarahalli lake. Little difficult to pronounce but a great place to relax.

Since my stay in Mysore was with my friend, most of the trips were with her and her friends. That meant we had to wait for the perfect day where IT companies went on a strike. We reached Kukkarahalli lake by the evening.

Kukkarahalli lake is 5.5km from where we were staying in Mysore. Situated at the heart of Mysore city, this lake was known to be built by the royal family with the aim of providing water for irrigation around the area. But, later on, the lake has been polluted owing many sources mainly illegal ones. Today, great effort is taken by the natives of Mysore in the restoration of this lake and surroundings. There is a well maintained park area around the lake for people to come and relax.

When we reached the gates were closed and came to know the entry is from 4.00PM. So we waited and had some fruits from the nearby shops. There is a railway crossing near this place and on both sides of the track, there were red flowers bloomed and it looks pretty. Yeah, but, Do not go there to click pictures. The security guard is going to shoo you away, and you are going to understand that from his expressions and tone even if you don’t understand the language.

There was no entry fee to enter Kukkarahalli lake. Many people came here to jog and exercise. When we entered, as the first ones of that evening, we had the place to ourselves. It was so calm and peaceful. The lake is spread across a large area and there is a path cleared on the bank of the lake. This path is occupied by many that came afterward to jog and for an evening walk.

The rest of the place is filled with trees, mainly Banyan trees, that got our attention. There was a place where boats were tied to the shore, from the symbols we understood it belonged to the defense groups. With no one around to raw them, they were just a nice sight and could not boat in the lake.

When we were about to leave the place, there were many rushing to this place right outside the gate of the lake. That is how we noticed the yellow colored fish-shaped food stall. Nothing big, nothing fancy, it was a small stall with few snack options mainly fish fry and chicken fry. But, who eats fish fry alone?! We did and it was delicious!

Well, you should try the fried fish from here, it was the softest fried fish we ever had. They serve it with green chutney and other chutney, we only took the green one. I would definitely go back there for the fish fry I think.

Outside the Kukkarahalli lake, there were horses tied up when we arrived here. I saw in many places in Mysore horse riding is a common touristy thing to do. The horses were busy eating their food and didn’t even bother to look up for a picture. Oh, what do they know about the hashtags!

We had to leave the place early after one of our friends got a call from her office to join for the night shift and we did wishing if we could just stay for the sunset.
