Inspiring Your Teen to Read Books: Bring Them To a Poppin' BookstoresteemCreated with Sketch.

in #travel6 years ago

I read a lot of books to my kids when they were younger and they loved it. When you homeschool thru the primary grades, you kind of have to 😉

They developed a love of the written word and we spent hours at libraries and book stores. In fact, at one point they had pretty much "read through" our local library's youth section, so we had to expand our scope to surrounding towns.

But after entering "regular" school and discovering the pitfalls of hours of homework and required textbook reading, I found that the love of books was starting to wear off. Plus, getting personal computers and a phone meant more hours reading screens than books.

But, in Pasadena there is a really unique store called "The Book Alley" which features an eclectic mix of merchandise displayed in a treasure hunt kind of fashion that gets my kids hunting through the shelves and browsing through pages. The Book Alley also has interesting little features like...

Oh, and of course, books! Lots and lots of books!

There is truly something for everyone. Everyone, including your teenager, who you will be thrilled to see intently immersed in something other than his or her phone screen 😀

Thank you to @dswigle for inspiring us to take this book store excursion to celebrate #MarketFriday!

I'm so glad you went! This looks like such a wonderful place, even I want to go! I love that you are so proactive with the reading and giving the computer screens a rest. That says a lot about you as a mother.

When parents let kids abuse these thing, it is usually because they have their face stuck in the screen.

Sorry. It's true.

However, it is great way to spend time with your kids and for them to keep on reading.

Thanks you for taking the time to put this together, Denise! Upped and Steemed tip!

Thanks so much for thr kind words & encouragement @dswigle! Yes, we all need a break from the screen time (& even steemit 😉)

That la for sharing your bookstore.

We have a Rocket Reuse, maybe I’ll share it next week 📚

Awww! Iggy is awesome! 😍 Thanks so much for sharing him @old-guy-photos!

Now that's my kind of bookstore! How fun! My kids are all around 40 years old and they still talk about and remember the books I read aloud to them in the evenings after supper!

Thanks so much Melinda! That's the best, when you get to hear from your kids that all the hours of quality time was appreciated and remembered. 💝

Fantastic #MarketFriday! I admit, I use to read a lot more than I do now but I do pick a book up every now & then.

Thanks @debralee! Yes, I sometimes find it more challenging these days to find the time to pick up a book too. But I've read some great really great ones lately, which has been inspiring.

Books! What are those things? Great way to encourage your children, Denise. I don't have any teenagers yet, but it's good advice. Thanks for sharing!

Hopefully this wonderful place is enough reason for the teens to read. And hopefully there are enough book for teens here!
