ITSUKUSHIMA
Is an astounding place to visit, and a 12th century Japanese national treasure Shrine. The Shrine is on the island of Itsukushima which is just a 20 minutes ferry ride from the outskirts of Hiroshima. I took these photos on our recent holiday to Japan. This picture is of the famous 'floating' gate, so named due to the appearance of floating on the water.
These shrine buildings are built on pier like structures over the water and when the tide is in they appear to be floating. They contain several National treasures which include 32 scrolls on which the Lotus and other Sutra's have been copied.
5 Storied Pagoda
The island is home to hundreds of very tame Deer, and this is a photo of me with one of them.
This view is from inside a major Shrine building looking out towards the floating gate, which is 16 meters of 50ft high.
One perfect day.
