Kyoto - Kogetsudai (Moon Viewing Sand Mound) and Ginshadan (Silver Sand Sea)

After the Kinkaku-ji, it was of course to go to Ginkaku-ji.

Ginkaku-ji (Temple of the Silver Pavilion), officially named Jishō-ji (Temple of Shining Mercy), is a Zen temple in the Sakyo ward of Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the constructions that represents the Higashiyama Culture of the Muromachi period.
In addition to the temple's famous building, the property features wooded grounds covered with a variety of mosses. The Japanese garden, supposedly designed by the great landscape artist Sōami. The sand garden of Ginkaku-ji has become particularly well known; and the carefully formed pile of sand which is said to symbolize Mount Fuji is an essential element in the garden.

The first impression was the unique view of Kogetsudai (Moon Viewing Sand Mound) and Ginshadan (Silver Sand Sea). It was not difficult to build the Moon Viewing Sand Mound from the viewpoint of structures. However the workmanship for the accurate shape and the smooth surface was excellent.

It should be a beautiful picture from any direction.

Generally I thought there was very beautiful and unique gardening in Ginkaku-ji. It was fresh, elegant and simple without flat.

Tetsugaku no Michi (Philosopher's Walk)

IMG_7423.jpg

The passage was completed in 1890 at the foot the Higashiyama Mountain Range and was extended in 1912. The walking trail runs alongside the cherry tree lined Lake Biwa Canal. (Around 1.8km from the Nyakuoji Bridge to the Jodoji Bridge.) There are famous temples and shrines nearby such as the World Heritage Ginkaku-ji Temple with a pleasant historical and cultural atmosphere.
In 1968, with the enthusiasm of local residents, Kyoto City completed the passage as a walking trail. Since then, residents and the Kyoto City Water Supply and Sewage Bureau have worked on the maintenance of the trail and it is a relaxing place for people living in Kyoto as well as for tourists with cherry blossoms in spring, fireflies in summer, colored leaves in autumn and snowy scenery in winter.
In 1986, Philosopher's Walk was chosen for the 100 Best Japanese Roads.

The pass was quite and clean, not too many people there. It was a good place for thinking. Unfortunately we couldn't see fireflies at night.

Kani Dōraku

Kani Dōraku is a Japanese restaurant chain that specialises in crustaceans and other seafood. The restaurants are known for their traditional appearance and the large, mechanical, red crab that moves above the main entrance. We tried to make a reservation in downtown but not successful. Then we walked in Kita shirakawa branch of Kani Dōraku and we got a room for lunch.

There was promotion sets in specific hours.

We ordered a set named Unkai. It was made by a full crab.

It was the individual room for us.

The snow crab was delicious. However it was not enough. Next time I will try some other sets more.
