The Waterfalls Near Iligan City Part 1

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Iligan City is used to be more than an hour's westerly drive, but due to ongoing road repair works and traffic congestion, you will be lucky to drive it in less than 2 hours on a regular day from Cagayan de Oro, the city where I live in.

Iligan is a highly urbanized city in the Northern Mindanao region, Philippines. It is geographically within the province of Lanao del Norte but administered independently from the province. It also known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls.

My former classmate is based there and he loves to run or ride a bike around the mountains and rural areas to relieve stress in order to experience a healthy lifestyle and get some mental and spiritual healing. He has sent me some wonderful pics of some these waterfalls which he visited. There were plenty of pics so I decided to make them into a series of posts with his kind permission.

Maria Cristina Falls

This is is the Philippines’ most majestic waterfall. It also provides the majority of hydro electric power to the island of Mindanao.

Since the power of the Maria Cristina falls is being harnessed for electricity, the best day to experience its grandeur is on Sundays between 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Location of Maria Christina Falls courtesy of Google Maps and my former classmate’s Facebook group. Location of Start: Iligan Post Office, around 9.1 kms away.

awesome photos and great post, thanks for share ^_^

Glad you liked it.

Referred as the city of waterfalls because it has 23 waterfalls situated in different places within the city.

Nice addition to my content, buddy!

That site has now a natures park which open for business everyday. Unlike before, people can now visit the falls whenever they wanted to. The park has mini zoo and panoramic views.

That's good to know. Hoped you like my post.

No reason not to like it. Your promoting the city where I live and I appreciate it.

Yes, if only Marawi City wasn't so near then Iligan would have boomed economically better than CDO or Davao.

@juvyjabian, I was informed that it is believed to be more than 50 waterfalls. The official list from the city hasn't been updated yet. My former classmate and his running buddies have made new discoveries of some unknown waterfalls.

Yes right. Those 23 are the ones that can be easily access.
