Lions Head Day TripsteemCreated with Sketch.

So for the past week I have been camped out away from society. We set up camp at Sauble Falls provincial park which is up in the Bruce Peninsula of Ontario, Canada. The great part about this location is that there are many other provincial parks, small towns, sites to see and places to go. One of our trips was to a small town called Lions Head. This town was celebrating its centennial birthday this year. The name comes from a formation in the limestone bluff (a lions head) as seen in the below image.

You can actually hike out and stand on top of the lions head. Unfortunately since my son Luke is only 5 years old we decided to view it from the other side of the bay. The view is still breath taking. There are two sets of binoculars that are free to use. While looking through these we could actually see people standing on top of the bluff. Luke thought that it was pretty amazing.

The water is part of the Georgia Bay. It is know for its bedrock bottom and crystal clear waters. It makes for fantastic viewing. It has also caused many shipwrecks as the water is so clear it is hard to tell the depth of many of the rocks. It is a great place for scuba diving but further up the coast line. Image below shows how clear the water is.

There are also many 19th century lighthouses up the coast of the Georgian Bay. I am on a mission to get a photo of as many as I can. By this time Luke was getting used to having his picture taken and started to actually pose for the camera.

I mentioned about the bedrock in the lake. The town of Lions head has a sandy beach further in the inlet but out by the light house it is a rocky beach. Luke and I spent quite a bit of time down in the water. We ended up picking out some rocks for our fish tank back home. I chose a much larger rock than Luke did.

Lions Head also has a few cute shops in town to browse through. It has a small summer town feel to it.
It is only a three minute drive from the main highway. So it you are headed anywhere up in the Bruce peninsula I definitely suggest driving into town to check out the view.
It you have time to spend the day, head into the provincial park and do the hike up to the lions head. We are planning to complete this on one of our future trips when Luke is older.
And that is my dadview on Lions Head Ontario.
