Travel Tip: Velka Amerika, one of the most photogenic natural places in the Czech Republic

Hi Steemians,

If you liked my recent post about the Máj Lookout, I am sure you will enjoy this one too because I am about to show you another beautiful natural spot of my home country, the Czech Republic.

Also known as the Czech Grand Canyon, Velka Amerika (translates as “Big America”) is a partly flooded, abandoned limestone quarry located just some 20 km (12 mi) outside Prague. Mining of limestone ceased decades ago but the place has been a popular and sought-after spot for tourists and also divers as the crystal-clear water provides excellent conditions for scuba diving.

Swimming is officially not allowed anymore in Velka Amerika as the quarry has already claimed several casualties but if you come to visit this place, you might see some daring guys breaking the rules as the idea of refreshing oneself in the turquoise water is very tempting, especially in summer.

Another cool thing about this place is its close (hiking) distance to the world-famous Karlstejn Castle, a majestic Gothic castle that I will tell you more about in one of my future posts.

OMG! you are making me relaxed day by day through your beautiful places of #Czech Republic. At first sight thought i am looking at some animated picture but soon i realized Oh Man! this is the #Tom's blog ( i know you shared always something unique regarding your home land )

Without any exaggeration i would love to visit this place and sure i will not break the rules meansi will not dive in it.
