Travel with me - My stay in a Kyoto Ryokan
A ryokan is a type of traditional Japanese inn that has existed since the eighth. Ryokan are more typically located in scenic areas, such as in the mountains or by the sea. They feature tatami-matted rooms, hot springs, and other public areas where visitors may wear yukata.
Ohara Ryokan and Onsen
Located in Northern Kyoto
The ryokan I stayed at was located in the northern regions of Kyoto prefecture, a farming village on the mountainside. These mountains provide the community with warm volcanic hot spring water for the onsens.
Tatami-matted room
My room was a traditional tatami-matted room. There was a vending machine outside filled with Kirin beer :)
Dinner was a chicken hotpot. Yes I ate all those vegetables.
This is the private outdoor onsen (Japanese Hot spring). It's just like a hot tub but the water that comes in is fresh from the mountainside and is naturally warm. No chemicals are needed. It is great for cleansing.
Breakfast the next morning. Rice, eggs, fish, tea and a tofu dessert.
Temples of Ohara
The next day I checked out the nearby temples throughout Ohara. Not much to say, the scenery of the photos speak for themselves.
The Tree of Life
Tea and Mochi Candy
Koi fish pond
Lunch
This restaurant had a highly rated Tofu bowl that I had to try. It was delicious.
If you are ever in Kyoto I highly suggest taking the trip to Ohara. It is only an hour away by bus and it is a great escape.
Thank you all for reading my post. I am going to the Emperor's gardens next.
