Epic Britain – The Pig Near Bath – 2 Nights - Luxurious, Organic and Blissful - New Year Edition

in #travel6 years ago

Hi Steemians!

I'M BACK

with another little travel jewel. We recently got married and one of our wedding gifts was a 2 night stay at the Pig near Bath. We managed to book 2 nights from the 22nd of December till the 24th. We basically got back for Christmas eve, which was perfect.

This place is a bit of a cult classic here in the UK. They have 5 different locations. We stayed at the one near Bath. These are the locations starting with the one we stayed at:

The Pig Near Bath: this is in Bath https://www.thepighotel.com/near-bath/

The Pig on the Beach: this is in Dorset https://www.thepighotel.com/on-the-beach/

The Pig in the New Forest: this is in the New Forest https://www.thepighotel.com/brockenhurst/

The Pig at Comb: this is in Devon https://www.thepighotel.com/at-combe/

The Pig in the Wall: this is in Hampshire https://www.thepighotel.com/in-the-wall/

TO GET HERE:

We left London from Paddington Station and jumped on a Great Western Rail train to Bath. The journey was about 1.5 hours.
The cost of the train tickets to go and come back for 2 was: £160 GBP (British Pounds)

Once we got to Bath, we just jumped in a cab as The Pig is about 20 minutes out of Bath. The cab cost £25 going and £25 coming back.

WHAT MAKES THE PIG EPIC

I think, the most unique aspect that sets the Pig apart from a lot of other places is that it’s super organic. All the vegetables, fruits and berries etc are grown in their gardens. Here is what I'm talking about.

They have chicken coups, deer enclosures and an enclosure for pigs too.

THE PLACE

What a jewel. There are 24 rooms. Sizes vary from small, medium and large. There are also 3 garden shed type rooms, like a mini bungalow shall we say. These would be the more expensive of the lot. Beautiful though. We stayed in one of the medium rooms, and happy to report it was great. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room in general was done to a very high specification when it comes to comfort, style and luxury.

THE ROOM

I tell you now, I didn’t include pictures of the bathrooms sadly (no filter removes a toilet =) ), but it was great. (Say this line in a Trump voice hehe)

WHERE THE EATING HAPPENS

The food was amazing. Did not take many food pics other than TWO deserts. An apple rhubarb crumble with cream. Holy. Shit. And a chocolate mousse with a hazelnut brittle. To be fair, not the biggest fan of taking pictures of food.

The breakfasts were really good. Everything organic. Choices from a hot menu i.e. Full English Breakfasts, different combinations of eggs and trimmings, pretty much the usual good hot breakfast selection.

The other option was their cold breakfasts. They had amazing granolas, mueslis and cereals that all looked as organic as can be. Pickled fruits, dried fruits and a selection of different nuts could be thrown in a bowl and topped with homemade yoghurt. It was delicious.
You had a small but tasty selection of cheeses and sumptuous glazed Gamon ham slices.

They had a variety of fresh juices as well ranging from beetroot, apple, orange and grapefruit.

Obviously, none of this really matters until you’ve had a good cup of coffee!

THE WALK

There are fantastic little walks you can do near by. We opted for the shorter 45 minute walk as my wife @natnot is 9 months pregnant and it was quite muddy and slippery. Not a great combination. We also had to walk through a bit of forest that was an active hunting area. The sign says that we should stick to the marked paths….great, our path to get back wasn’t any of the marked ones. =) All 3 of us made it back safe, happy to report.

Of course, in the country, you're followed by Spy Goats!

I can’t say that I’m a fisherman or anything, but one thing I do like maybe once a decade is to go fishing. I didn’t go this time, but there is a small lake about 20 minutes (10 minutes without a pregnant wife) walk from the Pig. There were a bunch of dudes dotted around the lake with their rain canopies, sleeping waiting for a bite. Bliss for those of us who appreciate doing nothing.
Do have to mention that you do need a permit to fish there. Don’t know how easy it is to get one, in the States it was pretty straight forward, get it on the day type thing. Love the sign post with the guy running away with a fish under his arm!

THE MASSAGE

So, my beautiful wife booked us a massage each. She went for a pregnancy massage and I went for a full body. Can't tell you how relaxed we were afterwards.
They both lasted an hour each, we were both in our own super cozy massage cottages! EPIC!!!!!!
One thing to note, the image of the inside of the massage room I took off the Pig's website as I didn't take a picture in there. Didn't have my phone as I was there to disconnect from the world.

When you are well looked after, you feel it and it makes the entire experience that much more memorable. It’s rare for me to pass out and sleep during the day, but here’s a video of epic snoozage.

Well, ladies and gents...let me just wish you all a happy 2018 and hope all your dreams of happiness, health and success come true this year and the next and the one after.

Love to see that place though I'm not there...

Well, hopefully, you will be one day! Just plan a trip and do it =)
Any experience where you see and experience new things is always worth the cost.

Glad you enjoyed the post! =)

Really well written and interesting article.
Looks very relaxing (who doesn't need a massage nowadays?) and love the organic element. Where are you off to next? Will you take your lucky wife with you ;)

Impressively in depth post, I almost feel like I have been there myself now. Looks like you had a wonderful time, and as tasty Rhubarb Crumble as well!

Thanks!
