Trolltunga - The Troll's Tongue - Hiking and camping in breathtaking Norway | Part 2
After a few hours, I finally finished putting together Part 2 of my Trolltunga (Troll's Tongue) journal since I returned from Norway.
In case you missed it, you can catch the story from the beginning by checking out Part 1 (HERE).
Continuing from where I left the story at, we set off from our first camp site after two nights of semi-bad, rainy weather, with a plan to go straight to Trolltunga. We made a quick stop at Endåen hut. Where we decided that we'll come back after reaching the famous hanging cliff, and pith the tent next to the hut and sleep there.
After having a quick bite and some coffee at the hut whilst admiring our surreal surroundings, we set off at a slow but steady pace to get to Trolltunga. The trail is really well marked and would be hard to lose. There is quite a bit of mud this time of the year and we crossed a bit of snow on a few occasions. Some 3 season hiking boots that are waterproof would be perfect (although I left mine in Romania). Ended up using some approach shoes with a tiny bit of ankle support and I was fine with that even with a heavy pack. A lot of the people we saw hiking there were wearing running shoes but that would be really not to be advised even in July.
You can find clean drinking water in many places along the trail so you don't need to carry too much.
We reached Trolltunga shortly after and I waited in line for about 20 minutes to get a chance to get some time on the cliff alone and @meanmommy33 was kind enough to take some shots of me. There was quite a queue since it is high season, there was good weather and it was in the weekend. If you set up camp around it you can probably get more time for yourself with it during the night.
Me in the queue...
We then returned to spent the night in Endåen hut where the temperature was around 4-5 degrees Celsius. Was a bit chilly but we had sleeping bags and mats. Since I had the tent up just outside and the packs ready to move, we could have moved there in case someone needed the shelter for a real emergency. We only slept for about 4 hours before having to wake up, pack up and head back to Odda and miss the bus to Oslo...
I was out and taking pictures with and without my tripod until around midnight.
That's the last shot that I got around around midnight.
And this is when we got up around 4 AM...this was the view from outside the hut.
And the Sun was about to make its appearance just as we were setting off for the hike back to Skjeggedal Carpark.
We got to Skjeggedal Carpark around 11 AM and soon after we got to Odda using a shuttle and cab combination that set us back only about 100 NOK for the both of us.
Odda is an amazing looking place. It is situated in this beautiful mountain valley with steep walls with huge waterfalls and it also sits just by a lake. It is quite a special little town.
The lake view near Odda Bus station.

I took this and the one below from the bus on our way back to Oslo. It was just a few km outside Odda.
All the shots in this post have been taken with my Nikon D700 and a Nikkor 24-85mm 3.5-4.5G ED lens.
Awesome set man

Cheers! Glad yo know you liked the post!
It is a pretty amazing rock formation-- I've seen some pictures of it before, but never went there myself. My older cousin and I would sometimes go hiking in Norway when I was a teenager and I was still living in Denmark... it is some really beautiful country!
Thanks for the visit! It is quite a famous rock formation...I wonder how much longer is it still going to be there with the amount of traffic it gets. I met a geologist from nearby Odda who was thinking the same thing. A lot of people have build their businesses around this natural landmark and if it was to break I think that would change the number of tourists that place receives by a lot. Norway is a beautiful country, yes...good thing you got to see it and go hiking there.
Oh so that's what you were doing when I passed out from exhaustion in the hut ahahaha :D Well done ;) And awww cute little Odda...much better sunny :D
Thanks babe! Odda is much nicer under the rays of the sun... :)
