Sounion, Greece: Temple of Poseidon
We made a small day trip out from Athens towards Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon and lounge at the beach to watch the sunset. According to Greek mythology, Poseidon was the God of the Sea so this temple was a place for sailors to come bring animal sacrifices and other gifts to appease him. Currently, 15 of the 16 pillars stand and the frieze depicted a story of Theseus and the Battle of Centaurs.
If you ever have the chance to make it out there, make sure you stay to watch the sun set behind the temple.
