The iron ore deposit was discovered in 1760, but development began only in 1972. Brown ore was mined here, so the shores of the quarry have a reddish hue. At one time, so that the mine would not be flooded, it was necessary to divert the channel of the Umirka river flowing here (a tributary of the Malaya Satka)
In 1991, the development was temporarily mothballed, and since 1993 the territory began to belong to the Zyuratkul national park. No more work was carried out, and the quarry quickly filled with water. Depending on the lighting, the color of the water can vary from bright turquoise to dark emerald.
