In Pictures - Cave in Istria, Croatia

in #travel6 years ago

We are going deep in this post, almost as deep as crypto markets right now, hehe. Very interesting natural phenomena just right along the coast.

The Baredine cave has been here as it is for a millenia. Silently forming in the depths of a rock. Leaves you in awe when you figure out what exists below our feet.

The first official explorations were made by speleologists from Italy at the beginning of the 20th century when they delved as far as 80 m into its depth.

In 1973 local inhabitants went to the lower part of the cave where they discovered a passage which made it possible for them to go as far as the underground lakes how they made it to the bottom of the cave.

It was clear that this should become a monument to the nature. Cave adaptations started at the beginning of the 90's. In 1995 the cave was opened for tourist visits which was a welcome boost to the local economy.. In the following years the infrastructure was improved, which made possible for some very pleasant stays in and around the cave.

They tried to find more levels to the cave but with little success. Surface pottery has been collected in soil sediments prove that human beings entered the cave in ancient times and used to live there. Subterranean fauna has also been explored and studied. As you can see there are human fish endemic species happily staying in place for days or even months.

10 Euros entrance. Steep climb down on about 200 steps. A guide which speaks your language. Lasts about 45 minutes all in all. A nice detour!

Beautiful! Nature itself is so intriguing..We only scratch the surface above ground. Underground caves, sunken cities, the ocean...I'd love to see them all but I am to much of a chicken. LOl

A very fascinating adventure, reading and staring at the photos that you present, I feel like I was adventuring with you even in an imaginary adventure. I hope you are always healthy and continue to introduce other exciting adventures.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

The Baredine cave has been here as it is for a millenia.
It should be millennia instead of millenia.
