AGADIR : Morrocan Tales ☀ Ocean Part 1

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Without much further ado, join us on our Moroccan trilogy as we venture from ocean to cities to the biggest desert in the world!

8 days, 6 major cities, a broken camera, missing wallet, LOADS of cats and an unforgettable night in the mighty Sahara.

In this part one of our first segment, Ocean, we check out the resort town of Agadir - nicknamed the ‘Miami of Morocco’ and famed for its 10km long stretch of golden sand. Due to being hit by the most devastating earthquake the Kingdom had ever seen in 1960, most of the city was left in ruins. This is why there are hardly any historical buildings left in the city, and everything has been rebuilt. If you’re after culture and history, Agadir may not be the perfect Moroccan destination for you, but if you’re after sun and sand minus the guilt from sitting on your ass on the beach all day, Agadir could be just the place!

If resorts aren’t really your cup of tea, and you’re not looking to spend much but still after a nice room, the hotel we stayed at (The Atlantic Hotel) may suit your liking. For 50€ a night, the rooms were spacious and clean with a modern design and amenities, such as a great shower (complete with a rain shower head!). Great value for money in our opinion!

Feeling peckish on the beach? Find out where the locals go for delicious and cheap fish at a local food court by the port where the freshest catch is reeled in on the daily. I’m telling you, this could become your daily lunch spot - you don’t want to be eating at the tourist traps along the marina which serve frozen food!

↠ PRO TIP: Need to exchange money at Agadir airport? Don't exchange them at the first currency converters you see, wait til you get to the second row of currency converters on your way out! The rate is better (well at least when we were there), but of course, still not as good as places in town. At least you'll have enough money to take a taxi though!

Trying to decide where in Morocco to go for a seaside vacay? Stay tuned for the part 2 of this segment as we explore the beautiful UNESCO heritage medina of Essaouira. So if you're low on time and only want to check out one of these two major coastal cities, you can already see which one would suit your needs better!
