Australia #2 - Sydney Opera House - New South Wales

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

It's a 5 minute walk from our apartment in Manly to the Wharf, where we take a short and pleasant ride on the ferry to Circular Quay. For all intents and purposes the quay is the center of Sydney, since so many people use the extensive ferry network to commute and otherwise avoid traffic, giving easy access to destinations like the Opera House, the Central Business District (CBD), and links to other transportation.

Approaching Circular Quay, just beyond the Opera House headland, on a grey day.

Another tourist outside one of the many attractions.

The tour of the Sydney Opera House starts with a very informative presentation about designing and constructing the building.

There are several halls, of varying sizes.

Some interesting artwork...

and of course some very interesting architecture, inside...

and out!

All the roof sections are covered in ceramic tiles, which reflect light wonderfully!

The largest hall. If you plan ahead you might be able to book a performance - and, despite the name, it's not just about opera, because there are numerous performances in many different genres.

The tour is only a couple of hours, but you could spend all day here because there are so many fascinating things to see, and so many great photos to capture, inside and out. We visited in mid-February, off season, and just walked up to book a tour that started in about 20 minutes. On-season, or on a weekend, you should book on-line in advance! Oh - the one thing that annoyed us about Australia: they have senior's rates, but for government or subsidized attractions you have to be an Australian citizen (reminds me I have to write their Prime Minister a letter about how discriminatory this is!).

Join me for my next post - the Blue Mountains!

Thanks to @benfenson for watching over my Oz posts!

At least I can say I've 'seen' the Sydney Opera House - inside and out! Hehehe... Thank you!! :)

I love and miss Sydney! What a city. Have to go back one day. Great post, great photos.

Thanks for feedback - appreciate your work so value your opinion!

Thanks, my friend, likewise :)

Congratz, you just have been resteemed by @pixresteemer!
(All right but who is pixresteemer?)

Good morning. Tried this so I would start a cluster marker. Notification right away, formed a 2 cluster with my previous post in Manly, had to zoom right in to separate the two as they are quite close. Brilliant! Keep on studying!

Edit just now: thinking about my next Australia post: can you put two locations in one post, i.e. two separate lines with complete info re: lat long etc.? Or will this break your app? Let me know before I try it - probably tomorrow am.

Hey hey, glad to hear everything worked right away!
You can't put multiple locations in one post, and we will most likely never allow it, so we don't populate the map with the same post!
What I would suggest is to try and pick the most relevant of the two places you'd be talking about!
Aaaand back to studying (okay no, that's not true, I need a break, heading into the city for an hour or 2, haha!)

Not to drink beer I hope!

Thanks for info re: multiple locations.

Did another test for you, searching for and using app on wife's iPad mini:

Search in Safari Google - you should tweak how folks find you, there's a few other steem maps so it took a while trying different names to find you.

Once I did full functionality, though it's hard to zoom in on the tiny screen with big people thumbs and fingers! After a lot of zooming and re-positioning we eventually got to Sydney and my wife saw my latest post. So that works. Not sure if I will try it on her iPhone!

To drink wine actually, haha!
Oh yeah, I haven't worked on search engine optimization at all yet, that's for when the map is finished!
Yes, it's mainly made for being used with a computer, it works on all other devices but not 100% optimized for those yet!

I was impressed with it on iPad mini actually. Except for the time spent zooming it was very functional. Have a great day!

Great shots thanks for the tour inside the Opera House I never made it in there and it is such cool design work

Cheers

Thanks for feedback - it really is an amazing place!

It sure looks it from your post
