"Time travel in Intramuros"

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Intramuros Manila is know as the preserved historical center of the Philippines.

I have been in this place for so many times during college days but never been in "Light and Sound Museum", which is inaugurated in November 30, 2003 until last Thursday because I needed to accompany my daughter with her Field Trip as one of her school year activities.

"Intramuros and Rizal's Bagumbayan Light and Sound Museum" is the main attraction in Intramuros featuring the historical event of the Philippines throughout the straggles of the Filipinos to our freedom.

As our group enter the place, I was amaze by the incredible works of arts and advance technology that they use. I tough it is just like the any other museum with pictures inside, big frames, standing sculptures and mannequin with some text and description besides them to educate visitors. But everything is beyond my expectation.

It is a big dark two story building with different stations and more rooms that you need to pass through with big and life size frames, sculptures, moving mannequins, paintings and structures. Really surprising with the 3D representation and incredible sound and light effects (so... that's why it is "Light and Sound Museum" 😂 ) as the narrator tells a particular event the light will be spotted in that corner. You will be walk through history for like an hour or more.
Its like you're watching a movie and at the same time you where there, lol!

The museum tells the history of the land even before the pre-colonial period until the day of our freedom.

And let my compilation of photos tells you the story as well...

1PRE1.JPG
The Manunggul Jar is a burial jar, it dates from 890-710 BC found in Tabon cave, Palawan. The two figures on top of the jar represents the journey of the soul to after life believed by the ancient people.
It is the finest pre-colonial artworks of the Filipinos and considered now as National treasure.

In this period, people live through farming, agriculture and trading are predominated by Chinese and Malays.

During the pre-colonial, the land was ruled by Datus and Rajahs. The famous among them are Datu Lapu-lapu for killing Magellan in battle of Mactan and Rajah Sulayman of being the Great ruler and won many battles.

Philippines was colonized by the Spaniards for 333 years, thus the name "Philippines" came from King Philip II of Spain by Ruy Lopez de Villalobos.

Many expeditions around the island by different European explorers happened and wants to claim the place for Spain, like a finders keepers but many bloody battles against them were revolted.

But the bright side of colonization is the introduction of Christianity which we have today in our generation, the Roman Catholic.

They build churches and taught the people with religious belief and traditions, as well as they constructed catholic schools as the education system in the Philippines ruled by the Friars.

Building of Intramuros, which means "within the walls" (ahem! I am here now 😂 😂) also constructed during Spanish time. They build it to protect Manila from foreign invaders for it is also the center of economy, where Galleon sailed and trades from Manila to Mexico for exchanging goods, and vice versa.

The structures are made from brick walls and stones labored manually by Indios (Filipino) that faced hardship and abuse at work.

And it makes me compare the past and the present time on how laborers build a 100-floor tower with the use of advance machinery that makes their works easier.

Okey going back to Colonial time... 😂 😂

Of course, our national hero will never be forgotten... José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda or in short, Dr. Jose Rizal. An ophthalmologist and writer, famous for his novel "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo" that portraits the the abuse and corruption in Spanish government, which led him to exile in Dapitan because of his writings thru "Propaganda" movements for government reform.

The famous characters of Rizal's Novel was also exhibited in the museum, they are: ( from top left to top right)
Filosofo Tacio, Juan Crisostomo Ibarra, Ilias, Padre Damaso, Crispin, Basilio, Donya Victorina, Capitan Tiago, Maria Clara and Sisa.

But before his execution he got a colorful love life with Leonora Rivera and Josephine Braken. He also live in Paris for two years and after his return he formed the "La Liga Filipina" movement and he was declared as the enemy of Spain.

He was arrested and put into trial on October 6, 1896. Exiled in Dapitan and walk to death march going to Bagumbayan, his death was executed by firing squad on December 30, 1896.

Within the same year 1986 the rebellion of KKK (Kataas-taasaan Kagalang-galangang Katipunan) a secret group of Filipinos arouse when the Spaniards executed the three Filipino priest Padre Mariano Gomez, Padre Jose Burgos and Padre Jacinto Zamora, also known as GOMBURZA for the accusation of sedition.

The Katipuneros fought hard to win the battle headed by Andres Bonifacio.

And finally we gain our freedom on June 12, 1898 in Kawit,Cavite... the Philippine flag was raised in the balcony by Emilio Aguinaldo.
... Indeed a long journey to the sovereignty!

Ow by the way, here are the photos of our "journey" 😂😄 going to Intramuros Manila, since we are from Lucena City. Its also a long travel like 4 hours. So, we departs at 5:00 AM for the opening of the Museum at 9:00 AM luckily we arrived on time without traffic and hassle along the way.

I can say that this field trip is one of the best activity for this school year.
Truly, a learning experience thru interaction outside the campus, not only for the students but also for each parents and guardians even though we all (or some may not) knew about our history, but it is a different involvement for me because... I was traveled back in time!

Thank you for passing by... have a great day Steemians!

I owned all photos and content posted above
