"Valmo" il cacciatore vissuto 7500 anni fa -- "Valmo" the hunter lived 7500 years ago

Durante le mie escursioni sulle Dolomiti , mi ritrovo a passare per il paese di Selva di Cadore nella provincia di Belluno .
Mi ritrovo attratto dal Museo Vittorino Cazzetta presente nel paese , dove si trovano i resti del famoso cacciatore mesolitico "Valmo" vissuto circa 7500 anni fa .

During my excursions in the Dolomites, I find myself passing through the village of Selva di Cadore in the province of Belluno, in Northern Italy.
I find myself attracted by the Vittorino Cazzetta Museum in the town, where the remains of the famous Mesolithic hunter "Valmo" lived about 7500 years ago.

Il Museo nasce dall'idea di Vittorino Cazzetta , nato nel 1947 a Pescul , grande appassionato di escursioni e innamorato delle montagne della sua zona .
Le sue escursioni in montagna duravano anche parecchi giorni , e a lui nell'anno 1985 si deve la scoperta dello scheletro del cacciatore preistorico "Valmo".

The Museum was born from the idea of Vittorino Cazzetta, born in 1947 in Pescul, a great lover of excursions and in love with the mountains of his area.
His excursions in the mountains also lasted several days, and in 1985 he was responsible for the discovery of the skeleton of the prehistoric hunter "Valmo".

Il Museo e' ben organizzato e diviso in vari piani , la prima parte e' composta da pannelli che spiegano la nascita del Museo basata sulla raccolta e conservazione di tutti i reperti archeologici di Vittorino Cazzetta , che per suo desiderio dovevano essere esposti per aiutare le nuove generazioni a conoscere il loro territorio .
Continuando nel percorso troviamo una sala con moltissimi fossili di dinosauro e la mia attenzione viene attirata da un enorme ricostruzione del masso di Dolomia ritrovato sotto il Monte Pelmetto con le prime impronte di dinosauri riconosciute in Italia , il tutto arricchito da un sistema olografico che sopra il "masso" ricostruisce visivamente e con il sonoro il passaggio del vertebrato , rendendo molto affascinante la spiegazione

The Museum is well organized and divided into various levels, the first part is made up of panels that explain the birth of the Museum based on the collection and preservation of all the archaeological finds by Vittorino Cazzetta, which had to be exhibited to help the new generations to know their territory.
Continuing along the path we find a room with many dinosaur fossils and my attention is drawn to an enormous reconstruction of the Dolomia boulder found under Mount Pelmetto with the first dinosaur footprints recognized in Italy, all enriched by a holographic system that above the "masso" visually reconstructs the passage of the vertebrate with sound, making the explanation very fascinating

Come si legge dai pannelli esplicativi dai milioni di anni dell'epoca dei dinosauri , si passa a migliaia di anni nella sezione del Museo che riguarda il ritrovamento di " Valmo" il famoso uomo di Mondeval .
Troviamo una bella galleria fotografica del luogo del ritrovamento di Mondeval de Sora a 2150 metri di altezza , dove Vittorino Cazzetta ritrovo' alcuni reperti che diedero vita allo scavo archeologico in collaborazione con l'Universita' di Ferrara che porto' alla luce lo scheletro del cacciatore preistorico.

As we read from the explanatory panels from the millions of years of the dinosaur era, we move to thousands of years in the section of the Museum that concerns the discovery of "Valmo" the famous man of Mondeval.
We find a beautiful photo gallery of the place of the discovery of Mondeval de Sora at 2150 meters high, where Vittorino Cazzetta found some finds that gave rise to the archaeological excavation in collaboration with the University of Ferrara that brought to light the skeleton of the hunter prehistoric.

Io adoro le ricostruzioni visive e vengo accontentato da una vetrina dove e' stata ricostruita dettagliatamente la ipotetica capanna dove l'uomo di Mondeval con la sua famiglia viveva , il tutto accompagnato dalla spiegazione sonora coi manichini illuminati da un gioco di luci che creano l'atmosfera giusta

I adore visual reconstructions and I am satisfied with a showcase where the hypothetical hut where Mondeval's man and his family lived was reconstructed in detail, all accompanied by the sound explanation with the mannequins illuminated by a play of lights that create the right atmosphere

Addentrandoci sempre di piu' nel Museo , arriviamo alla zona dove vengono conservati in una teca protettiva i resti dell' uomo di Mondeval "Valmo" , ritrovati nel 1985 .

Going further and further into the Museum, we come to the area where the remains of the Mondeval man "Valmo", found in 1985, are kept in a protective case.

Molto scenografica la stanza contenente lo scheletro del cacciatore , composta da una stanza completamente buia con molti puntini di luce sul soffitto come a rappresentare il luogo della vera sepoltura al buio in alta montagna illuminata solo dal cielo stellato , lo stato di conservazione dello scheletro e' eccezionale

The room containing the skeleton of the hunter is very scenic, made up of a completely dark room with many specks of light on the ceiling as if to represent the place of true burial in the dark in the high mountains illuminated only by the starry sky, the state of conservation of the skeleton is awesome

Prima di concludere la visita andiamo a vedere una parte del Museo dove si alternano varie esposizioni , e in questo periodo e' stata allestita una mostra dedicata alle Donne delle Dolomiti intitolata "Sulle spalle delle donne" , riguardante la vita e il lavoro delle donne della zona

Before concluding the visit we go to see a part of the Museum where various exhibitions alternate, and in this period an exhibition dedicated to the Women of the Dolomites has been set upentitled "Sulle spalle delle donne" (on the shoulders of women) concerning the life and work of local women

un bel viaggio fra foto in bianco e nero , alcune molto commoventi, storie di fatica legata al duro lavoro , molti utensili utilizzati per tessitura o per la preparazione di cibo e una raccolta di vestiti che ti riportano a un periodo , almeno per me mai vissuto , ma sempre raccontato dai nonni .

a nice trip between black and white photos, some very moving, stories of hard work , many tools used for weaving or for food preparation and a collection of clothes that take you back to that period, at least for me never lived, but always told by grandparents.

In un " piccolo" paese di montagna un "grande" Museo da vedere , la guida molto gentile mi ha spiegato che il Museo e' sempre in continuo aggiornamento e quindi di sicuro ci ritornero' nei prossimi anni , vi ringrazio per avermi seguito fino a qui e spero di avervi fatto venire voglia di venire a Selva di Cadore .

In a "small" mountain village a "great" museum to see, the very kind guide explained to me that the Museum is always continuously updated and therefore I will certainly return there in the coming years, thank you for following me up to here and I hope I have made you want to come to Selva di Cadore.
