Sounds positively frightening! I was warned that I might get kidnapped in Chile too, but somehow survived a few months there.
Where you are, though, is particularly concerning. Those low-flush toilets can be brutal!
Hahaha! Toilets in Mexico cannot handle toilet paper so you throw your paper in a wastepaper basket. That gets a bit scary.
