Athens, the core of Greece, mother of arts and history

Hello fellows,

Hope you are good, I just got flu and lost my voice for the moment... but fortunately I can write so today I am gonna write about my experience in Athens, Greek.

For my sister's birthday I bought tickets to Athens, a city we had never visited before that, so we were pretty excited to discover a new place together.

We went on June and temperature was quite okay, I insisted to go to the beach, so we tried to go at least three times, it was super, the beach was not crowded and water was perfect so we got a little tan.

We walked a lot, I uploaded a picture below which show how many km/day.

My sister has a PhD degree in art so of course we visited at least one museum, my favorite was Acropolis Museum because I had the chance to find more info and the complete history of the Acropolis, especially about Parthenon. It is a big museum that has a lot of archaeological artifacts, reproductions. The entrance fee is reasonable, so you should visit it.
A must do is Acropolis, which I visited for free because I was a student then, so I was pretty lucky. As a tip you should visit on early morning because of the hot weather and the large number of visitors. It is situated on a hill so you should have a pair of adequate shoes. Views are absolutely beautiful. It is totally worth it.

Everyday we walked on Plaka neighborhood which is situated at the base of the hill were is Acropolis located. From there we bought souvenir for our family and friends. I bought myself a beautiful pair of earring and a matching ring from silver, I still love them. This neighborhood is perfect shopping and dinning and I love Greek cuisine. The price is good at the restaurants.

The truest part of our trip was seeing how the economical crisis has affected this country, we saw a lot of people without a job, homeless people who were sleeping in the middle of streets, a lot of Syrian refugees, there was a lot of sorrow that you can't see it when you are visiting the island, there is everything flower power, but that is not the real economical situation of Greece. It was quite an impressive moment for me because it made me feel so powerless and helpless, I felt so sad that there are people who left their country in order to live a normal life, to live actually, who lost their family, friends, and there is almost nothing we can do to stop this....
This experience enlightened us, made me feel grateful for what I have, and focused on the positive aspects in my life. We need to improve ourselves in order to be a better world. I like this city mainly because I saw the real face of Greece, it's not like on the islands where everything is flower power.

Wow! Excellent photogrphy. You looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Athens is cool, but honestly, I expected more, considering all the marketing towards tourists they have. Have you gone to Bucharest Avenue?

Yes I have.
Mostly I liked this city because it was different from visiting an island where everything is dandy, fine, you enjoy the summer and that's it you go home and tell everyone how everything was perfect, here I got to see not only the tourist part, but also the current situation in this country, where there are all kinds of people, from rich too poor and refugees.

I was pleased with this city, has art, views, sea and good food, but I heard Thessaloniki is better. Did you visit it @sebi99p?

Only briefly, didn't get to experience that place. But I heard it's really cool from others as well.

Every place has its good and bad parts. I dunno, I just expected more, considering it's the place democracy was born and all that history behind it. It's not ugly, by any means, it's beautiful, I was just expecting more :)
