Welcome to Cheltenham Spa, a spa town nestled in Gloucestershire, England. This is the home to roughly 110,000 people in the breathtaking Cotswolds on the edge of England. In the South-West region home to the "Cheltonians". Cheltenham is a town of proud people big on health and education. The town also has an image of being respectable and wealthy. With a small river flowing through year round called the River Chelt, because of the narrow nature of the river, it's prone to floods. Horse racing in Cheltenham is a huge deal, the town annually hosts the flagship race of British steeplechase horse racing and the Gold Cup. Horse racing brings the Irish to town, which makes for even more festive times. The town has lush parks and beer gardens and due to its student occupants, has lots of entertainment year round even bands playing in the parks on the weekend. To me, this part of England is by far the most beautiful England has to offer. That's why I made it my home for just under two years. And for Downhill biking it's the perfect place as it's surrounded by several hills and the Forest of Dean is not a long way away either.
Get out there and embrace the moment!!!

Leckhampton is the southern district of Cheltenham. Leckhampton Hill is little over 800 meters high. As you arrive in the parking lot you have two main pathways leading up to the top and a third pathway from the farms at the back of the hill. Unlike other hills around the world, Leckhampton is still old school, not special lifts to get you to the top. Depending on your fitness levels you should be able to ascend the hill in under 30 min.

Now if you're a keen speed freak like me you will know that 20 minutes up amounts to about 2 or 3 minutes down if you're lucky. So the locals here have sorted out this problem. There are several trails that lead down from the top. These trails zigzag through the forest left and right over the main pathway, now as if it's not dangerous enough dodging hikers and dogs, you now have to keep focused as there are all kinds of obstacles in your merry way. Anything from a sheer 30-meter drop to several step up jumps shooting you high and far across the forest canopy. At this point, if you're still on your bike then the staircase starts winding around the pine trees. This hill is a fair challenge for even an experienced rider and awesome for honing your technical skills.
