Translation reopens by utopian-io
As many of you have known Utopian has reinstated their support to translation. But this time, they have a partner- DaVinci team. And the process is quite different from before.
Frist of all, the translation team is consisted of language manager(LM) and translators. Each team has one LM and few translators. They work as a team instead of individual.
Team selection - Last year, Utopian-io suffered badly from floods of submissions of poor quality in translation. This forced them to pause the category for a very long time. And this time, to secure the best in world quality, they delegate the project to DaVinci who’s a professional team in this area, they carefully select and form each team: Anyone who’s interested to be part of the team needs to send a steemit post to introduce themselves (in both written and oral) to the world in both English and the language that they apply for, they also need to briefly elaborate why they want to participate, and what their history with Utopian-io, etc. They received 136 applications in the first round of the application, there were only 20 candidates accepted. 2nd round of the selection will start in about a week from now. Anyone who missed the first round can follow them for updates.
Available language on the first round of acceptance- Spanish, Italian, Greek, Chinese and German.
Translation- need to be done in crowdin. Both LM and translator need to be accepted by the same project as otherwise the contributed won’t be accepted. LM needs to be proofreader, they work with translator as a team to make sure that the final version of the translation provided high standard quality.
Start date: Starting from 6/17, the first selected team can start to submit their translation through DaVinci.utopian editor(https://davinci.utopian.io/editor). Translators can submit their translations after they are done. LM will then go to the site to proofread and then follow the scoring system that DaVinci/Utopian developed to rate the translation which covers- formatting, overall presentation of the post, overall value of this contribution to the open source community, overall volume of the translated text in the contribution, overall difficulty of the translated text in this contribution, and semantic accuracy of the translated text.
Payout- Since I haven’t received any upvote from utopian-io, I can’t share too much about this part yet. But from what I heard, sounds like the payout could be meaningful and is subject to the performance evaluation and quality of the contribution.
In general, the process has been much button up. It raises up the bar for entry to secure a higher quality contribution to open sourced projects. I am in fully support of the system, and hopefully it works out and good contributors can be rewarded as they deserve.
