There's only one ATOM token and it is the token of the Cosmos network. Cosmos describes themselves as: a "decentralized network of independent parallel blockchains". By allowing these other independent blockchains to talk to each other, the goal of Cosmos is to become the "Internet of blockchains".

Here is the simple way they describe it:

If you were to consider the original cryptocurrency Bitcoin, as Blockchain 1.0, then Ethereum and the improvements it brought forth could be considered Blockchain 2.0. That leaves Cosmos with the descriptor of Blockchain 3.0 given its innovativeness and current/future potential.

There is a growing list of businesses that are actively building on the Cosmos network including: Binance Chain, Loom, Playlist, and The Lino Network.

The how and what of the Cosmos network is actually very interesting. If you want to dig into it, I encourage you to follow the links above and spend some time learning about the Tendermint Core, ABCI (Application Blockchain Interface), IBC (Inter Blockchain Communication Protocol), and Cosmos SDK. However, that is not the main focus of this post.

Instead, this post is about the why. As in "why should I buy or trade the TIOx or ATOM tokens on Trade.io?"

The quick answer is why would you not? The longer answer is much more interesting:

Full disclosure, I wasn't familiar with a couple of these terms so I contacted the Trade.io support (fully disclosing I was writing a review), to get some clarification. They were friendly and extremely helpful. Should an unfortunate circumstance arise that you need to contact them, I have full confidence in their ability to help you in a timely and respectful manner.

Zero Maker Fees

According to the service representative, "a market maker places the orders with prices that are different from the current market price." The example given was someone trying to buy at a lower price and sell at a higher price. Either way, there are zero fees for being a maker when you use Trade.io.

Zero Taker Fees

Conversely, "a market taker is a participant of the market, that is agreeing with the currently listed prices on the order book and wishes to fill his/her trade immediately". According to the representative and their website, Trade.io charges a miniscule 0.1% fee for "takers".

Zero Deposit and Minimal Withdrawal Fees

In my last post about Trade.io, I included this chart that lists the minimal fee they charge for withdrawals. The fee is based on the type of cryptocurrency that you are withdrawing. It is important to mention that while Trade.io does not directly charge any deposit fees, if you are using a credit or debit card to deposit money, there is a 5% fee assessed by Simplex for processing the transaction.

Trade.io and ATOM have an impressive Twitter campaign going right now to promote trading and purchasing the ATOM token on their platform. According to the graphic shared above that I sourced from their Tweet, it appears they are waiving the 0.1% taker fee for transactions of ATOM. I am waiting for clarification on that, and I will update this post as soon as I find out. Additionally, as you can see from the Tweet, they also have a contest running with a shared $500 prize.

Update: It has in fact been verified that the taker fee is being waived for ATOM as part of a promotion.
