Lokum - The Turkish Delight

While going on vacation to another country, our main goal is not only an interesting vacation, but also the purchase of such souvenirs that may describe live in the country we visited. Invariable visit card of Turkey remains lokum - The Turkish Delight, exotic asian sweets. Thanks to the unusual name, appetizing appearance, unique taste and variety of species this Turkish delicacy is being liked all over the world . Leaving Turkey, tourists take with them full bags of lokum to home to treat their loved ones with an amazing oriental dessert.
For the first time, lokum (translated from the Turkish - "piece") was created 230-250 years ago. In the past only regal persons were able to eat lokum, it never got on the table of an ordinary family.
Lokum strikes with a variety of ingredients. It can be simple, with nuts, candied fruits, sprinkled with coconut shavings, cinnamon, sugar powder, food poppy or chocolate, served in the form of pieces and rolls, have one or several flavors. It may be served in different ways. In Turkey, Lokum is served to coffee or tea.
Lokum is made from starch and sugar by special technology. To add a special taste, Turkish masters add honey, syrups, dried fruits, nuts etc. Finished lokum cut into small cubes, which have an elastic consistency, than sprinkle with powdered sugar. Variety of species of lokum is achieved through the addition of various fruit syrups.
Having glanced in one of the Turkish shops with oriental sweets, tourist face a huge assortment of lokum. Most of them want to buy all of the tastes and many of them do so.
It is a lokum itself- a delicious part Turkish culture, the most loved souvenir tourists bring from sunny Turkish resorts.
