Amsterdam Insights: House with the Most Narrow Facade

Amsterdam, also called the Venice of the north, is know for its many canals, bridges and its cute, mostly inclined houses.

In the city centre quite a few interesting houses were build in the last 300-350 years (since the golden age), from big to smaller, to small and smallest.

The house with the smallest facade, is the one that can be found on Singel 7. The facade has a width of slightly more than a meter. 1,02 meter to be exact. Behind the facade the width becomes bigger, therefore this house is not the smallest house in Amsterdam.

At the time of building the house, property taxes were based on the width of the facade; Therefore this construct.

Whenever you visit Amsterdam, have a look at this one. It is located very close to the central train station, as well as to all the hostels and some of Amsterdam's finest hotels. In fact, directly next door a hotel is located. The area itself is were many of the visitors spend their time.
