We sold it all, and never looked back.

A few years ago something strange happened,
we woke up and realized that the way we lived our lives was not right.
We were living in a big house CHECK!
We had the nice shiny family car CHECK!
We had the big ass TV CHECK!
Our family had it "all" but something was not right.

One day i got home from work and sat in front of the t.v as usual, but after 3 hours of mind control i suddenly realized the t.v was the enemy, the t.v was getting in between us, it had separated us, made us feel inadequate, gave us anxiety, gave the kids mood swings and violent outbursts.
It had to stop, we had to find a way. so later that night when all the kids were asleep i expressed my thoughts to my partner and she agreed, and with that i walked straight up to the window, opened it, grabbed the t.v and i was just about to through it out the window when Louise said "erm cant we just sell it instead?"
She didn't get it, it would have been much more satisfying to through the thing trough the window.

The first few day's were very strange, it was as if the house had been turned off, i didn't know what to do with myself.
within a week we were all talking to each other again, playing more games, went out a lot, we had a lot more time for each other and i picked up a guitar for the first time in my life and just started playing.

After realizing the significants of what we did, we started to get other things out our life that we did not need
The shiny car GONE!
The flashy watches GONE!
Facebook GONE!

The more we did it, the better we felt, thats when we realized the HOUSE had to go
It was a beautiful house in a lovely area in the north of Sweden, but the bills and the constant upkeep was creating more tension, anxiety and an enormous weight on our shoulders.

Today we live on the road traveling around Europe and North Africa, in a truck that we converted our-selfs
we are the happiest we have ever been, and believe we have found true freedom, we feel in control and complete, we feel stronger and closer than ever before. we did it, now its your turn

peace to all

Welcome to Steemit.
Wow, living your dream! Good on you. Freedom revealed.
Thank you for sharing this inspiring story :)

thank you sir, we hope it inspires :)

I know what you mean! Although I never intended for what happened to happen. I live out in the middle of nowhere and for the longest time we did not have any electricity. We still do not have running water. We learned to control the television which we finally have after four years.

It was the hard row to hoe but thankfully even though sometimes I want to throw the computer against the wall and go back to nothing again. There is Steemit and cryptocurrency - so sometimes one must suck it up and deal with all the high tech.

I wrote a series of articles on facebook about how video can overload your brain, especially the short term memory and cause all the symptoms you document. Children can have their learning ability wiped out by too much video.

One of the interesting things about technology is that it is all new and evidence arises such as information overload that the technology can be over-consumed like a drug and have unforeseen side effects. It is nice to know someone else came to these conclusions as well. Welcome to Steemit

hi Jeff, yes it defiantly effects there brains, we met some German who are on the road like us, and all for of there children had never seen tv, and no Disney, only beautiful Japanese animated movies, and i have to say they are they most well behaved, well spoken (multiple languages) well balanced, peaceful 3 boys i have ever had the pleasure to meet.

steemit and cryptocurrency seem to be my only computer habits at the moment, but i feel more in control of steemit and cryptos , than i did when it was facebook and a Bank.

thank for the welcome

Well done @markwhittam and family! I have followed you and am keenly interested in your adventures! what an amazing education your children will enjoy. That's a true gift. ;) (I have upvoted and followed you.)

thank you, thank you, they love it, they really do. :)

My husband (@knarly327) and I "right-sized" our house 2 years ago. We are currently living in 850 sq/feet. I know that's palatial compared to most tiny homes which come in at 300 sq/ft...but our goal is to take it off the grid too or at least have the option to, if we want.
I commend you for changing and getting your lives back.
Well done!

thank you for you're kind words, the children love this life

welcome Whittam family! Your is an amazing story! I follow.

We feel very welcome, thank you

if i may ask, but please do not answer if you feel uncomfortable, or for whatever reason you choose not to answer.

how do you earn income and how do you educate your children?

please pardon my ignorance. if you choose not to answer, i will be happy for i know my questions are very personal in nature.

Not at all, you have some valid Questions, that i shall reveal the answerers to in my next post, sorry to make you wait, and thank you for the idea for the next post

Oh that is a great answer. Kudos.

That's the way to do it my friend! I've done the same in regards to the TV. Still want the house though. Could care less about the type of car I have. Just want to live comfortably with my family! God bless ya bud!

thats all we need, food and a roof, the rest are just distractions.

Love Tinyhousemovement ! That's amazing you were able to do this! Congrats!

I would love to see more pics of your house truck!

Me too. I believe this blog will become very popular.

more pic's to come :)

cool post, yes they do not call it t.v. "programming" and "remote control" for nothing :) good luck and welcome to steemit
