TIL that sometimes all a baby needs is someone to show her the way!

in #til8 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone, if you have been following along with some of my posts you may recall a post I did a little while back about my daughter's first visit to the park. It may not sound like such a big deal, but at the time she had just turned 1 years old and hadn't even really been outside all that much, let alone a visit all the way to the park.

Well that day did not go well for her as she basically spent the entire time at the park screaming her cute little head off. Specifically when she got near the slide... It appears she was not quite ready for the slide... or really any of the large toys the park had to offer.

After a couple months we decided it was time to give her another shot...

This would be her second visit to the park and it would start out much better than the first one. As we approached the park she started kicking her legs and giggling with excitement as she saw all the toys and the other little kids running around. A much different reaction than her first time there...

Then came the slide...

We weren't entirely sure how she would respond this time. As you can see in the image below, she was a little unsure of what to expect from this thing, but that was still a much better reaction than she had the first time, which was one of sheer terror!

However, after we convinced her big brother to go down the slide a couple times to show her it was OK and then convinced him to go down the slide with her, things got much better... In fact, if you look really close you can almost see a hint of joy on that little baby's face!

Maybe all she needed was a role model and some company after all? :)

Thanks for reading and live well my friends!

One first shows the way, and kids will then run in front of us forever :)

You are right! I just hope it doesn't happen too fast and I can enjoy the times when they are like this :)

It always happens too fast, IMO :)

Role models can be a blessing for all of us. Especially when we're afraid "to go down the slide" :-)

Haha very true and very nicely stated! Thank you :)

This is interesting and also adorable:)

Haha thank you! I know... I never knew I would be so fascinated by a baby... it all changes when it becomes your own :)

Give her a couple of years and she'll be charging down those slides with gusto!

Haha I think you are right! I just hope she won't be the one surfing down the slide on a board when all the other kids are too afraid to try it... ha :)

My older kid is a bit of a daredevil. The younger one was really cautious and would not even go on a swing until her feet almost touched the ground. Sooner or later, they all figure it out, though, and have fun.

That is interesting... My mom is a preschool teacher and she was just telling about some early education stuff she had been reading where they talk about personality traits that typically fit a person's birth order. Surprisingly the first born's tend to be more cautious and the last born's tend to be the risk takers... at least according to her and what she read. You guys have defied the percentages! ;)

Sweet; I remember taking my little girl down to the sandpit, if I turned my back on her for a split second she would start eating sand! :-D

Haha! That reminds me! On our way back from the park we let her run around in the grass for a bit and sure enough she picked up a dog poop... of course... luckily we ran to her and shook it out of her hand just in time before it could make it's way to her mouth! phew :)

Arg! Lucky, you can't take your eye off them for a second! :-D

A little baby in a big world looking to you to be there for here when she gets overwhelmed. We all look up to our parents and ask them for guidance even we grow older. If you are fortunate to have your grandparent, then even better. There's lots of knowledge with them but unfortunately they don't have a lot of experience with all the new gismos and gadgets so you will be learning together on that stuff. I enjoyed the post, thanks for sharing.

You got it! I see it now already from time to time she will get scared and immediately run to me. It warms my heart. :)

Thank you for reading and commenting! :)
