Me and my two good friends (Jose Mota and Argenis Solis) were sitting on the side of the road to San Pedro de Macoris thinking; “how in the world are we going to get home” we were broke, tired and far from our families.
It all started at the beginning of that summer when we heard that Dj Tiesto was coming to the Dominican Republic and we decided that we had to be there, it was his first performance in D.R. and we had to be there.
Well after we ALL got the tickets (or so Jose and I thought) we were so excited that we even painted some T-shirts for the concert.
Finally the day arrives July 2nd 2005 we are ready to go and we decide that we are going to get to the concert by bus (NOT our own cars) for safety reasons.
I should clarify that we live in Santo Domingo Dominican Republic’s Capital city, and the concert was in Playa Caribe (Caribbean Beach) which is at about 56 Km from Santo Domingo.
So we head to the bus station but before getting there we had to get some knick knacks (alcohol). Now picture this, three guys wearing similar shirts going into a store to buy alcohol. People thought we were from out of town and tried to rip us off, we went in and asked for a bottle of Anisette and some evaporated milk to make a couple of drinks on the ride over, and the guy selling the stuff even started talking in a foreign language and asking for Wayyyyy too Much money compared to the real price of the bottle, until Argenis told the guy (in Spanish) “come on man we live around the corner (not really true) so stop trying to rob us” the guy was so embarrassed that he started stuttering and ended up giving us the Anisette for less than the real price.
After that we got on the bus and rode on to Playa Caribe, Jose started to mix the drinks on the back of the bus, with such technique that even with the bus jumping up and down he didn’t spill one drop, it was like Tom Cruise in Cocktail but better. At 2:00 pm we arrived at the scene, it was great there were lots of people, good music, sun and friends it promised to be an incredible concert.
As we are getting ready to go into the concert Argenis reveals that he doesn’t have the ticket, immediately our faces went from happiness to anger as we stared at Argenis wondering why he would do something like that, he had told us that he had the ticket.
Now we have a big problem José and I have to decide: go inside without Argenis, return home with him or try to get him a ticket in the black market (people that sell tickets outside concerts at a very high price).
Well we decided to do the honorable thing which was, buy the ticket in the black market.
After 40 minutes of looking for a person to sell us the ticket we found it, it was this guy who looked like he could rob a liquor store just for a few bucks but we had no other choice so we went over to the guy and asked him “how much for the ticket?” he said 1800 pesos which was more than double the normal price, being this guy the only one who could sell us the ticket we had to take the offer so with the money that we had for drinks, food and to go back home we purchased Argenis ticket (we didn’t care we just wanted to have fun and without Argenis I don’t think that would have been possible so we went for it).
We got the ticket, went pass security and got to the beach. It was awesome the sun was shining more than ever, the water was calm and the people were friendly and carefree “this is going to be the best night” I said.

There was a Dj opening for Tiesto his name was Aurax, he was good but after midnight everybody was bored and wanted to see Tiesto, you could hear people complaining over the loud music, this went on for about an hour from 12:00 to 1:00 when Aurax suddenly stepped off and everything got very quiet, people held their breath as the music slowly started again and Tiesto appeared on stage. The crowd went wild and everybody started dancing to the music and screaming.
He played from 1:00 am to about 9:00 am time during which we never stopped dancing, jumping and screaming it was as if we had energy to spare. Even though we had no money to even buy water, we were so dehydrated that I couldn’t believe we were still standing after all of this.
That Sunday morning I saw the most beautiful sunrise I’ve ever seen in my life and at that point I thought to myself “I could go out get run over by a bus and die, and I would go in peace, for I have seen beauty and it was amazing”
After everything was over and the music was off (they had to kick Tiesto off the stage he wanted to play more) we walked over to the side of the road and started thinking of a way to get home, I was sooo dehydrated and at that moment I saw a guy pouring a bottle of water on the ground, I wanted to kill him “why does he do that and me here soooo thirsty that I could die” and José was dehydrated and wanted to go to the bathroom so his idea was to get home grab a gallon of water and go pee while he drank to replace the fluids cuz if he peed but didn’t drink he would run out of liquids and if he drank and did not pee he would pee in his pants. But that wasn’t the real problem the problem was how are we going to get home?

Fortunately José had one minute left in his cel phone (that at the time was a little LG 1010 very old!!) he then called his GIRLDFRIEND and told her to call his mom and tell her to pick us up, we didn’t think she would because we were sooo faraway but it was worth a try.!

Jose was able to get in touch with his girlfriend and told her to contact his mother, she did and his mother called him back, at that moment we were saved and the worries that I had in my head disipated like foame on the see.

About 45 minutes passed when we saw Jose´s mothers car in the distance like a mirage on the desert as it approached us we gained live as we stood with an energy that we did not know we had.

We got in the car and headed home.

When I arrived home I went directly to the kitchen where I opened the refrigerator door and found a chocolate cake that was left from my aunts birthday, with teary eyes I saw heaven as I carved up half of that cake and took what felt like a gallon of water to my room to make a long story short I ate the whole thing and drank all the water and then I fell on my bed and slept until the next day.

Overall, the BEST NIGHT EVER!!!!!!
