I quit tobacco years ago, and started spending similar amounts on tools and shop gear. I have a very well stocked shed now.
I dare your colleague to spend their cigarette money on gear for a hobby, and see how it starts to add up:)
That is what mean. I used Steem as an example because well, we are here but, it can go into something that brings real quality of life. Paints, tools, a gym membership... anything else really.

Imagine spending thousands of Euros over a few years, collecting guitar geek gear, and finding out you sucked at it. Still looks like a win. As long as you don't light it on fire and inhale the fumes, almost ANYTHING is a win lol
