The Robots Are Coming: Being Human - Content Links #2

robot_hand.jpg

The robots are coming and they will be human. This is the assertion that I have made in the past and will continue to make.

My thinking is so; we are human, ergo everything we make has a human feel to it. This makes perfect sense because we make products predominantly for us, and even when we make things for our pets or farmyard animals, there is still a certain humanness to them.

So the latest articles have focused on how the machines are becoming like us in their 'thinking', and in turn how our biology is becoming more machine like.

The Robots Are Coming: Synthetic Ascension And The Power Of Touch
The Power of Touch takes a look at the new robotic arm that allows its user to feel sensation. We also look at how the power of touch could help robots to understand us better.

The Robots Are Coming: Synthetic Ascension - Conceiving A Digital Mind
In Conceiving A Digital Mind we look at what might happen should we become able to upload our consciousnesses. What are the physical, moral and legal implications?

The Robots Are Coming: Symbiosis Or Slavery? A Place For Human Thinking
In Symbiosis or Slavery? We take a look at whether a super intelligent machine race could ever look upon us as anything but pets, or worse still, slaves. I show how recent events surrounding human/A.I. collaboration actually paint a bright future between us and the robots.

The Robots Are Coming: Real Laws For Synthetic Citizens?
In the Real Laws article we take a look at a potential upcoming ethical and legal quagmire. The very nature of thinking and consciousness is brought into question, and we ponder what it means to be alive, and also a citizen. Will we ever think of our robot friends as our sentient equals?

The Robots Are Coming: Do You See What I See?
In this short essay we take a look at visual recognition systems, how they've developed and how we can improve upon them. If self-autonomous vehicles controlled by A.I. are ever going to drive us en masse, in safety, then we need to work out how best to get them to see what we see, and more.

The Robots Are Coming: Pondering The A.I. Trolley Dilemma
In the latest installment to the series, we take a look at the trolley dilemma, an ethical thought experiment whereby we are given the power to let events run, or change them. However our actions come with consequences, people will die.

With self driving vehicles slowly being introduced into society, we are faced with the fact that these vehicles may well have to face these same ethical dilemmas for real. What are the implications for them and for us?

The Robots Are Coming: The Story So Far - Content Links #1

I HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING READING THIS SERIES AS MUCH AS I AM CREATING IT. A.I. HAS ALWAYS FASCINATED ME AND AS A CHILD I DREAMED OF THE DAY WHEN SMART MACHINES WERE THE NORM AND HUMAN BIOLOGY COULD BE TAMED USING TECHNOLOGY.

THOSE DAYS ARE ALMOST UPON US AND SO IT EXCITES ME TO SEE THE CHANGES AND TO PONDER ON HOW THEY WILL AFFECT US IN THE NEAR AND FAR FLUNG FUTURES.

IF YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS ON THE SERIES, OR WOULD LIKE ME TO COVER AN ASPECT THAT I HAVE SO FAR MISSED.

THEN AS EVER, LET ME KNOW BELOW!
