I wonder what percentage of people go to therapy and make up stories just to get attention from their therapist.

I mean, when you think about it, therapy's this unique space where you're supposed to spill your guts, talk about what's bugging you, and, ideally, work through some stuff. But then, there's this curious corner of my mind that can't help but wonder, "Do some folks just go in there and, you know, spin tales?"

It's kinda like, maybe for some people, therapy becomes their stage, and the therapist is their audience of one. Maybe it's the attention they crave, or they're testing out stories to see how they land. Could be they're bored, looking for a reaction, or maybe they're just not ready to dive into the real stuff yet. Crafting stories might feel safer than unpacking the truth.

But then, flip it around, and you think about how wild that is, right? Someone's paying good money, usually, to sit in a room and not get the help they're there for. It's like going to a doctor and pretending you've got a different ailment every week.

I guess, at the end of the day, it's a reminder of how complex humans are. We're these walking, talking bundles of needs, desires, and fears. And maybe for a few folks, the need for attention, to be heard, even if it's through fiction, outweighs the desire to heal or grow at that moment.

Makes you think about the myriad reasons people do what they do. And hey, for therapists, it's probably just another layer of the onion to peel back, another part of the human psyche to understand. But, I'd wager the percentage is probably smaller than we think. Most folks probably just want to feel a bit better, you know?
