I want to share the music I've come across that has a certain quality to it, which is rare and hard to find. The kind of music that moves you so deeply in a way that you can't understand or describe. The lyrics or music or video may make no sense to your brain, but it does to your soul. It's extremely cathartic and inspiring.
Artist: David O'Brien
Song: The Liquid Lounge
I'm in awe when I listen to this song. I like to pick apart the different layers and try to figure out what makes a song work so well, because as a whole, it's one magical thing, but it's made up of many different pieces, each adding something valuable to the whole to make it what it is. The Liquid Lounge is perfect. Every layer, instrument, sound effect, sample, contributes to the song's abstract, mysterious, and enchanting feel.
I've discovered in making my own music that doing that is no easy feat. You really need to have an ear for every sound that you add to know how well it works, what it needs to sound better, or if you should trash it, even if you're really attached to it, because it might work well on its own, but not with that particular song. You need to have an ear to tell what a song needs to make the sound more complete, or if it doesn't need anything at all. The only way to develop that skill and intuition is through practice, experimenting, trial, and error. You'll add too many elements, too few, the wrong ones, the right ones, make some very strange combinations of sounds, and once in a while, you'll strike gold with no clue how you did it. You have to constantly keep trying different approaches to how you think and how you compose in order to stay creative and get decent results. I aim to refine my creativity and musical skills as much as I can with the time that I have in this life. Discovering music like this keeps me endlessly fascinated by the power of sound.
