100 DAYS OF STEEM - THE DIARY GAME - 22nd June. A tour of the Eternal City. DAY 12.

Today is not the usual routine, rather it is one of those days that can be full of pleasant surprises.
Yes, because in the afternoon we will go to Rome.
So morning breakfast and planning of our visit to Rome which is only 40 kilometers from my city, so without traffic it takes less than an hour to arrive.
But traffic is never to be underestimated.

My husband and I were born in Rome and lived in the capital until the age of twenty, then we moved to other cities in Italy for work.
So it happens to have paperwork to attend or make a specialist medical examination, but also to visit an old friend.

The ghetto of Rome is considered the oldest in the western world.

Strolling through its narrow alleys and ancient buildings takes you back in time.

Not to mention the scents of traditional cuisine that come from the typical restaurants scattered throughout the ghetto.

It is here that one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Rome is located, the Portico di Ottavia, from which it is possible to reach the "small Colosseum" the famous Teatro Marcello which is still a small amphitheater.

Understand why it is one of the parts of Rome that we prefer and should we visit when we are in town?

The only problem is that you arrive in the afternoon and you can no longer leave.
It becomes evening and you still cannot look away from the splendor that surrounds you.
When it is time to go home we take the G.R.A. ring road which surrounds the center of the city of Rome, then Pontina state road that connects the capital to the coastal cities.

On the way back we are always tired even if the journey is not long, but we are no longer used to the chaos and confusion typical of the big city, where it is a struggle to find a parking space.
I love Rome but every time I come home I remember why we chose to live in a smaller and more human-sized city.
For 9 we managed to return but no dinner because we squeezed all afternoon, between ice cream and slices of pizza.
Hence the usual evening routine, we look for a movie if my daughters like it too, so we see everything together otherwise they stay in their room chatting with each other or with some friends on WhatsApp.
