Steem-Powered Raised-Bed Update! Everything is GROWING!!! :D
Good morning all! I know you have been wondering what is going on with my Steem-Powered, raised bed gardens! So here you go!!
Yep, all is going fantastically, and we are well on our way toward our goal of really making a large impact on our grocery bill. (Not to mention, food grown at home is DELICIOUS and MUCH healthier than store-bought!)
Over the weekend, we made ANOTHER raised bed! Yep, we went with sheet metal again, because it is awesome, and CHEAPER than cement blocks! Once again, this week's main chore will be to fill this bad boy!
I've got a good start, don't you think? ;)
We still have space for at least 4 more of these beds, but the shade-house is starting to look more full!
I am excited to continue filling and planting these beds! I've got the first sheet-metal bed filled and planted. We've got peppers and tomatoes:
We've also got loads of seeds in there, which have not come up yet, including marigolds, (for pest control and prettiness!), lots of assorted lettuces, cucamelons, vine peaches... but the carrots ARE emerging!
Look at those tiny, baby carrots!!
In our original, less pretty, raised bed, everything is growing and thriving!
Here we have that butternut squash saved from the worm bin:
Yes, it is growing in a cinderblock hole. Yes, we are putting lots of water and fertilizer in there, and hopefully that will be good enough to sustain it! It IS about to bloom! It's an interesting experiment either way it ends up. :D
Here is a glorious mess of peas and onions. Apparently it is NOT recommended to plant these two things together, because the onions will stunt the peas. I guess no one told these peas that...
For those interested in how our pineberries are doing, well, they are growing like weeds! They keep trying to bloom and put on runners, but I am using all my self-control to snip those off! Trust me, I want to let them go, but they need to focus their energy on the plant and root systems the entire first year! Ugh!
Here is my main salad center! Check out the dollar-store lettuce going crazy! @papa-pepper's mustard greens are there in the middle, still going strong! I pick a HUGE mixing bowl of greens for salads almost every day!
Also, @sagescrub's dandelions are growing like, well, weeds! They look a little picked over here. That's because I have been picking their little greens as well, and they are strong enough to handle that and still grow like champs!
Speaking of @sagescrub, check out the purple orach I ordered from their store!
Pretty, right?! I can't wait till these are big enough to start harvesting greens from as well!
Well, I can see how long this post is becoming, with all these photos! I have more of herbs and whatnot, because they are ALL growing great! Mint, oregano, thyme, sage, cilantro, Jerusalem artichokes!! All these and more are growing and thriving, and I really believe that we will be very successful this year in growing a good amount of food for our family! ♥
Okay, one last photo of my helper, @SnekLady, cause she is so happy and sweet! ♥
Thanks for stopping by to check out the gardening fun! Let me know in the comments how your garden plans are coming along!
Have a blessed day Steemian friends! ♥

They are all looking so good
Those baby carrots
So much goodness growing in your garden... so excited for you ;D
Thanks!! Im super excited too!
That's an amazing crop, considering it's only March! I might have to copy your raised bed design. Ours are cinderblock and wood and aren't really deep enough.
Thanks!!
Yep, our cinderblock bed isnt very deep either, and looks puny compared to the new beds. I am loving the new design!
Looking good to have your very garden.😊

That is awesome! Wish I had the time to something similar. Miss having fresh foods around here.

Thank you!
Wish you did too! I think it is beneficial for pretty much everyone to grow food, even if it is a tiny pot of herbs on the windowsill. :)
Yay!! Alright!! I am so happy to see all your plants doing well. How fun for your daughter to share in the joy of gardening :) Thanks for sharing an update.. I love seeing the dandelions and orach doing really great in your garden!! Our orach is just starting to sprout in the garden, from seeds that dropped last year.
Thanks!! I am super excited about it too! The orach is something I have never grown before, and I was hoping it would do well here! It is such a pretty plant! Ill definitely be saving seeds from it! Once the dandelions make some seeds, Im planningon trying to seed them into our yard and pens. They are great for the animals, and the flowers are great for pollinators! Really one of the most underrated plants around...
That is so great!! It shouldn't be hard to get the orach growing year after year... they will make and drop a prolific amount of seed, birds will scatter them into the fall/winter, etc and I am sure they will be volunteering :) I love the orach flavor raw, even more than spinach and it is so good cooked too. Good luck getting the dandies to spread too! Awesome! Have fun!
Thanks!! :D

It IS! I love going out there and seeing what has grown more leaves, what has sprouted overnight. ♥
Wow that’s incredible! What a lot of growing. I wish I had that sort of space. I hope you have a fantastic harvest

Thanks!! It is fantastic!
:D
Even if you have little space, you could try growing something in a pot on the patio, or even a windowsill. Some plants lend themselves well to container gardening.
We’re growing herbs at the moment and we’ve just planted strawberry seeds. We are looking to buy a house with a garden and then I’ll grow everything!!

Looks like your garden is thriving and may it continue to do so, i do agree homegrown is so much better than store brought without a doubt
Thanks! :D
MOst welcome :)
