Winner Announcement for 10 Facts 1 Lie & This Could Have Been An Introduce Yourself Post.

in #tenfactsonelie6 years ago (edited)

Hi There 😊

OK, so it has been over a week since I posted my 10 Facts 1 Lie and it was fun to see the different answers. Thank you for playing but not one person caught the lie. Given all my truths were a little "bragalicious" (I know I know, I thought so too) I picked one that was equally over the top.

Before I go through them one by one, thank you @elizacheng for nominating me. There are many of these that belong in another life. When I was going through the pictures to jog my memory, I realise several I don't talk about because there are so many other things that have happened since and are better topics when the family get together. So, it was fun walking down memory lane.

Here's everyone who played and left an answer. Thank you 😊

Now, I'll walk you through each one.

When I was a kid, my Dad was so proud of me, he would cycle me all over town to show me off.

FACT:

As crazy as this sounds, he did. But to be fair, we lived in a very small town. In 2005, it was recorded around 30,000 in population. Now take it to the late 60s early 70s. Everybody knew everybody. Especially my dad who worked with Telekoms (that's the phone company). So everyone in town knew him and he knew everyone. When he came home from work, he'd put me in this basket made for bicycles and he'd cycle through town. And of course, every where he went, they'd give him something for his little girl. Hmmmmm, maybe that's why he brought me everywhere.
In this picture, we are going to the waterfalls that's around 3 miles away. The bicycle was the only mode of transportation for us. So I got to be ferried in my basket along with the stuff needed for the picnic, and everyone else would walk.

I prayed for a brother and didn't get jealous when he became everyone's favourite.

FACT:

According to my Mum, I wanted a brother so badly, I'd pray for him every single day. So when he arrived 3 years later, I loved him to bits. He was a boy after a string of girls on my Mum's side. When we went to live with my grandmother and aunties in Johor Baru (because it was a much bigger town with "better" schools), my aunties and I had sibling rivalry. We were close in age, the youngest being only 4 years older. But they loved my brother. From that point I went through a very tough childhood but the bond between my brother and I only got stronger. Til today we are very close and he has been in some of my photos and videos here on steemit.
Look at him. He was such a cute baby. What is there not to love?

I joined a beauty pageant to win a watch.

FACT:

I was 21, just moved to the city of Kuala Lumpur to work, and had lost my precious watch. A watch that was given to me for my 21st birthday so I was pretty upset. I was dead broke, and like a sign, spotted the auditions for the pageant in the newspapers. The Top 5 would get a watch and I thought I'd just go have a look see. One thing led to another and the next thing I knew I was runner-up and I got my watch.
I don't really talk about this because of the bad press beauty pageants have, but my friends and brother never let me forget and would randomly bring it up even with strangers because they think it is funny to watch me squirm. Mind you, it just happened again 3 days ago at the Dua Lipa concert. And it can get really awkward, really fast. Normally I would try to deflect it, but because I brought it up first here on the steemit post, I handled it a lot better.
If you'd like to know, the winner is No.4, extreme left, runner up me, extreme right, and 2nd runner up was No.7, third from the right. And there's the watch I won.

I represented Malaysia in an International Pageant and won Best Traditional.

FACT:

Winner for the above pageant represented Malaysia in Ms. Universe and runner up used to represent in Ms. World but they split just a year or two before. So runner up represented at Ms. Intercontinental. At first I didn't want to go because there were no chaperones and I had never been on a plane before. The prize money wasn't a lot and it was broken into 4 parts to be given over the year. So to go on my own half-way around the world to Nigeria with transit in India for 6 hours, very little money in my pocket was daunting to say the least. But a friend convinced me to go anyways saying that I probably would never pay to go to Nigeria so I should get over it and just go. I did. It was an experience alright and I'm glad I went.
I did win best traditional but I can't seem to find the picture now. This one here shows something similar to what I wore which was the Perak Traditional Wear for women. You don't see the bottom half, but it's a pant. And I'm holding a keris which is like a sword.)

I hosted an urban music chart show on TV that used a green screen.

FACT:

It was the first English Chart Show on Malaysian TV on the station Metro Vision that doesn't exist anymore. It was one of the best things I did. The picture shows blue, but honest to goodness I remember green or maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. All we had were 2 chairs, lights and a whole lotta pretend. We'd do our bits first and then the videos would be inserted into the back screen during production.
Each week, we'd have a theme and in this picture, if you can't tell it's the Beach. So there are the coconuts, and the beach ball. It was a lot of fun and I was very sad when they discontinued the show.

I was part of an all-girl group signed to a label to deliver two albums.

FACT:

It was the Spice Girls/TLC era. So we gathered one from each race (yes, we were already thinking 1 Malaysia way before the term was coined) and worked on demos and approached music labels. Ponycanyon signed us up. We were already working with producers on a couple of songs, when there was disagreement amongst us. I don't really want to get into it, as it is water under the bridge, but I was out of the group who proceeded to record one song and then it just slowly faded away.
This was taken during our publicity shots but unfortunately never really got used

I was a professional dancer for a top Dance Company though I have no formal dance training.

I

FACT:

The Kit Kat Klub championed by Tiara Jacquelina was much sort after in the 90s. We started off with models impersonating artists, more of a cabaret show. Then actual dancers and choreographers came on board. And we progressed to actual dancing. So the non-dancers had to learn fast or get kicked out. I did my best and trained extra hard and managed to stay in the group. Good thing, I was taller than most of them, so was always at the back and managed my splits.
These are some pictures I managed to compile. From Salsa, to Greece themed to Michael Jackson's Black or White

I qualified and was chosen to take part in The Amazing Race but had to turn it down.

LIE:

I wish though. I loved watching the show and talked about joining it but knew I wasn't cut out for it. I would be too nervous to eat weird stuff, jump of flying planes, swim through dirty waters... you get the picture. But of course if they had called me, I would have said yes in a heartbeat, and then manage my fears after.
One of the seasons had a pitstop in Singapore. So of course I had to take a picture. Covered the airing time and channel with "Winner".

I designed and sewed my first mini collection to showcase at a fashion show.

FACT:

My mum was a tailor. She always sewed all the girls' Christmas clothes. So her daughters, her sisters would have the same fabric with different dress patterns. She also sewed all my clothes when was I a little girl. So it came naturally to me. When I was older living in KL without her to help sew my clothes, she'd give me pointers and I'd alter my own clothes. In my late 20s I took a Diploma in Fashion. To graduate, we designed and sewed a mini collection, and showcased it at KLCC.
Here's my Evening Wear Collection and I still have a couple of these, though I really need to start decluttering.

10

I hosted a bilingual show (English and Malay) live even though my Malay isn't very good.

FACT:

It was on TV3 and it was a talent show for singers and bands. There was no room for error as it was live, but it got easier the more I did it. When they offered me the task of writing the scripts, it got even easier as what I said, was written the way I would say it.
I wonder what I'm saying in this picture. My face full of concentration and my co-host seems amused.

11

I went for several flight-stewardess interviews, and failed every single time.

FACT:

SIA, MAS and Cathay Pacific. I figured it would be a cheap way to travel the world and I could do it for a couple of years. SIA and Cathay Pacific would at least let me through to the second round, weigh me, check my eye sight and send me home advising me to put on weight, look at a lot of greens and come back. MAS didn't even let me through the first round. ppppbbbffffttttt!!
This is a picture of how skinny I used to be. 5'7" at 42kg with big 80s hair., I must have scared them. I couldn't find any pictures, I probably got rid of all of them. So here's one after a hair show where they chopped off all that 80s hair. But you see how skinny my arms were. And it's funny because I used to try so hard to put on weight... and now I am trying to lose weight.

Wow! That is one awesome 10 truths and a lie. Kinda wish I had seen it to play but really enjoyed the reveal.

You've lived an amazing life so far! Can't wait to see where you go from here!

I have been blessed with many opportunities. Thank you for swinging by @tamala 😊

Wow! Nobody got it right... But we got to know you a lot more better! You have been in the spotlight since you were a little girl... Love the photo with you in the basket... Cute... ✴️✴️✴️ Bling bling star you are one... 😉

Yes that basket is really cute. Made from rattan and balances on the bicycle. The generation that survived no seat belts... haha... thank you @elizacheng

I literally wow-ed at the things you did and your life. You have been shining bright like a diamond @kaerpediem. Your photos are so lovely! You sound like a woman who is brave in chasing your dreams, what a great inspiration you are. Haha no one guessed correctly and I almost pick the Amazing Race one but I didn't, what a shame. Haha. Thanks for sharing. Indeed we get to know you better through this post!

Haha! Should have gone with your first instinct...
Yes, raised by my never-say-die mother, I dared many things.
And then when the kids started coming, I spent All of Me raising them...
Different phases in life eh? 😊

Very well played, you managed to hide your lie very well. It was fascinating learning a little more about you and your past.

Compiling the list including the lie was really fun... especially going through all those dusty, scratchy old photos....
Thank you @c0ff33a for playing and taking on the challenge to do yours 😊

Whoa! This is one heck of a lie and truth! You are one fantastic woman and I actually do wish that you would have joined the amazing race but then again, jumping off planes... I think I would not be able to do that as well.

Great work on hiding the lie super well!

Hahaha ... I think the “ugly” me would have been displayed for all to see. Reality shows thrive on this and they would have had a field day with my reactions.
Thank you @littlenewthings

Wow, really interesting facts! Sounds like you've lived an interesting life. Funny that you used to not be able to gain weight and now you try hard to lose it (it's that the horrible thing about a slower metabolism - I totally understand). :) I bet you could be on Amazing Race! In the moment, you could make it through whatever crazy challenge they threw your way!! I'd cheer you on!

Thank you for your vote of confidence @apanamamama .... they stopped the Asian version...that saves me from finding out 😅

Glad Mr google didñ't capture all your moment. Wow, you have a lot of experience in many fields. With your story I'm sure a lot of women out there will too open up their memory lane and embrace women potential in an international and worldwide.

Before google....that’s how old these stories are haha

Amazing one here! I’ve enjoyed reading your cerita zaman dulu dulu especially the photos attached to each of them. You even had one for the lie! Such a talented lady you are. Btw you look great - no need to lose weight.

Glad you enjoyed it @ladylei...
the picture gave me he idea for the lie haha
And you are too kind...
Trust baby and Mummy all good 😊

Oh wow, hahaha I have yet to do mine. I think mine might be way easier to win 😂 what a pleasant surprise, thanks a lot @kaerpediem! Lovely history you have, very colorful and eventful! You must have lots of stories and life lessons to share with your doremifa! 😘

Yes lots of stories but not all to be shared...some maybe when they are older... haha.
It was my pleasure,... Congratulations again 😊
