Un terremoto de 7,5 sacude Papúa Nueva Guinea y activa alarma de tsunami en partes del Pacífico
A terremoto de magnitud 7,5 sacudió este martes las costas de Papúa Nueva Guinea activando una alarma de tsunami para partes del Pacífico, informó el Servicio Geológico de Estados Unidos (USGS).
El sismo se registró a unos 10 kilómetros de profundidad y a 44 kilómetros al noreste de Kokopo, la capital de la isla de East New Britain, a las 22:58 locales (12:58 GMT).
Por el momento no se han reportado daños ni víctimas en el área.
Pero según el Centro de Alerta de Tsunamis del Pacífico olas peligrosas podrían registrarse hasta a 1.000 kilómetros del epicentro del mismo, en las costas de Papúa Nueva Guinea y las Islas Salomón.
En febrero un terremoto de 7,5 registrado 900 kilómetros más al oeste destruyó numerosos edificios y mató a al menos 100 personas.
