This was such a fun one to read. You open by creating this great sense of familiar ease, of family comfort that seems so normal, hot chocolate and routine, bed time stories in a well known setting. You use the lines and rules of this to create a scary story, tailored to the fictional audience, which really helped it carry and hit for the reader. I really enjoyed the kids disappointment at the mundane seeming deaths, and had a good chuckle at the ending. There is some really skilled story telling in here, little lines, the what about halloween part, the bit about not telling parents, and the patter of speech between grampa and kids is very well done. A great ending scoring extra cute points!
