This is the key to counteracting the panopticon (big brother) folks. Centralized data systems cannot be protected because a hacker can hack once and get 143 million records. A decentralized system will cause the hacker to hack 143 million systems for each record.
I hope you realize that a hacker won't bother at all with the latter approach. Why? Because 143 million hacks would create an enormous electricity bill and only a fraction of those hacks will be successful. Many of those hacks will be for those accounts where the credit score is below 620 which means that it's useless for ID theft.
Nevertheless authority will make excuses for why we need to centralize our data into their hands. It's nonsense and you should not believe them. They want to be in control, but are unworthy of handling the job. Besides, it's technologically possible now to eliminate them with the Nakamoto approach to IT security; it's called decentralization.
Get used to asking this question now folks: is it decentralized? If yes, good, if not, then run away.
Just want to make a minor correction to the above article to add that a hacker could try to set up a botnet to hack 143 million computers. That would require enormous luck and most likely would get flagged by antivirus software where it shows up on each machine. Still definitely not worth it for a hacker to do this though.
